So this had me pulling my hair out. Power window was jammed up. In a Spider power windows are ridiculous and at the price of replacement units I was going to switch to manual. But since the motor was fine I though I'd have a go at fixing it. I went to hardware store and bought some cable. I rewound the spool but......it needs to have tension at all times or it springs looose. I'm ashamed to say I had to take it in and out and rewind it about twenty times before I got right, what a lesson in frustration. But in the end I have a working power window.

I thought I was finally finished with the car but driving it the clutch pedal was fairly high so I thought I'd adjust that. Well it's at the end so it looks like I'll be installing a clutch disc. They are never done are they?

Thought I was finished then I realized it needed a clutch. So on with it.

The pedal made an awful noise. I thought it was the return spring but ended up being the cable itself. That return spring was a bear. An old-timer taught me this trick for expanding a spring. (He used washers, I used pennies)

Good trick that on the spring. I wish I had invested the time on refreshing the seals on the landrover seals and gaskets while I had it out.

This looks like a good example. There's a few of these around here that come out in the summer. A friend was told by a mechanic re his Fiat - 'they're good for 100k kms' meaning, they fall apart at 101k kms. As you said - the Cali climate has been kind on this.

I guess my son has 36000 kilometers of motoring left. But I kind of think the friend was fed a line since I drove a Fiat 131(essentially same mechanicals) to 130000 miles (209000 kilometers) and although tired it was still running fine when I sold it. It’s about maintenance not the brand.
