No, you can't rely on a return but if a particular motor is 'hovering' around a value increase and popularity rise then that's when the decision to sell becomes a problem. Sell now and you could regret it a year later... a lot. When this trend starts to happen, the car rarely looses money, at worst it stagnates for a bit, especially seasonal cars, but it will continue to push upwards. I could leave the BM locked in a shed for a few years and forget about it... now knowing that it'll be worth more than when I locked it away. Sadly for the Golf it's a few years to roll until that begins to happen, excluding minters of course.

That's heartbreakingly cheap, good find!
Update to follow on condition of my heap as soon as I get some time

Mixed bag of news...
Yes it now goes, stops, changes gears, steers (although one TRE needs done still). Feeling quite positive about the car's future. All usual MOT trouble spots are fine and due in July. But (always a but)...
Due to a self-contained economic crisis and lack of space I have to let her go before I can reap the fruits of my labour. No way will I get my money back on the car or the parts.
In keeping with the MOT thread, should I test it because a pass would double value or not bother because a fail makes undrivable (and cannot afford any work ATM)?

It is with a heavy heart I can report that she's been shipped off to a new life as a parts car.
Honest (too honest?) Ebay ad got me £495 for a car I bought in January at 1k+ and spent a good few weekends/hundred quid on.
I'll sleep tonight and the gent who got an MOT'd 88 GTI for less than 500 is also likely to be chuffed.
Bid to buy not to view but if what you're viewing is not as described... Walk the feck away (or get a train if you're in Wales). Thank you for the wisdom team, new rolling resto is an all-original 92 MX5 with no nasty surprises*
*except how slooowwww they are
