used to love wheeler dealers, the early series where by far some of the best car based telly ever but as they grew and the production company chased more viewers i feel it lost a lot of the charm from the early series so haven't watched the last couple of series. i hope edd does something more workshop based as thats the bit i like most, the faked buying and selling scenes ruined it in the end for me, seemed so set up in the latter series. maybe this will shake the producers up a bit and it might go back to basics and revive the show to its former quality.

Trouble is the us producers are wanting to get rid of exactly what makes the show.

I loved the early wheeler dealers where they had stuff like a Capri and Mk1 golf and they were under £1000. I've learned a lot from watching it over the years, mostly from Ed's mechanical tips and the way explains things in simple terms. The later ones were still ok but not as good, when they started buying expensive cars, it lost the real world charm of the early ones.
I can only see discovery making it even worse. Has anyone watched that street outlaws, it's ridiculous. Fake arguments and people just shouting and screaming. Even the so called illegal races are a joke, on one that was meant to be an illegal road race, you could see it was some old land like an airfield and there was a fast food van parked up just visible in the corner of the screen.

Brewer just spoilt it from word go
If he turned up at our place and offered 2 grand under asking he'd be told to pay or fook off. End of conversation
Ed's a good bloke with loads of experience and knowledge. Good luck to him. He don't need that R's ole

It is all staged, the way American lawyers a company like Velocity/Discovery won't let them race on a highway so it is in a 'controlled environment'. Even the 'test hits' will be set up - I just take it as it is and enjoy seeing the cars.

The yanks aren't stupid you watch the show will run it's course and fizzle out quickly after a series or two Think the saying is buying up the competition with the producing rights mike will have no say when it's axed and replaced with a us version with yank hosts

attaboy made the program, then sold it on to discovery. problems started when discovery bought out attaboy tv then shipped the whole thing to usa. its all about cost cutting and making more $$$, they also seem to think everyone likes drama, shouting, screaming, look at me situations. if i wanted that i'd watch one of the craps usa comedy series, that many youngsters seem to like, but are total garbage.
Edd China did a live q & a last night, seems there are plans for new ideas and new programs.

I think this is a real shame but best of luck to him for whatever he does in the future. I don't mind Brewer either to be honest. I know there's more than a hint of cockney wideboy about him but he seems to love cars like the rest of us. cutting down on the workshop time on WD has to be a mistake though. I don't think anyone really watches it for the buying and selling parts do they? It seemed in the last series that the previews and recaps at the ad-breaks got longer too so actual content was less and less.

my main gripe with recent series of WD was the increase of mike helping in the workshop, it just came across like watching a blind arthritic chimp breaking macadamia nuts with a rock
i've watched Edds press release video on his youtube channel and i really respect him for the reasons he left.

it went to sh1te when it went state side Agreed 100%. Used to love it, but not interested in the American stuff at all and the last series was virtually unwatchable.

i've watched Edds press release video on his youtube channel and i really respect him for the reasons he left. You been f*****g spying on me while ive worked on me car or something??? I used to watch WD in its early days, days when it actually looked like it was made with just two production staff even if we didnt know it at the time. It was inevitable really, the programme achieves cult status, it grows, it sells around the World, more staff required to to run it, more money to spend, and it stops being a cosy little show in a niche market with a selective 'ITK' audience. Unfortunately, it became a business, the business has been taken over by asset strippers who will bleed the last drops out of it before binning it. Never mind.
