Hello,
Can you guys help me find more projects where the complete floor with suspension etc. Is swapped into another car?
Links to these projects would be greatly appreciated.
I have a combination with an alfa alfetta gtv, a bmw E39 and an audi V8 engine in my head..
Give me inspiration please!
Greetings Remco

My feeling is, and I may be wrong about this, but I didn't think you were allowed to carve the floor out of one car, and weld it into another to create a monocoque car with different underpinnings than it left the factory with. Or are you talking about taking a car body, and putting it on another chassis? Like for example a tata loadbeta pick up body, on a range rover chassis.

Dvla is not an issue since i'm Dutch. ;-)
Our rules are not very clear so we can get away with more stuff.
I want to build my own unibody with the gtv top and E39 floor section. Alfa didn't evolve with it's rwd platform after the eighties so i looked at brands that did. E39 is nice handling car with very good rear axle.

I've seen somewhere a chap using the bottom of an e36 and a mk1 Escort body, can't find it now though. That was in the UK but don't know how legitimate it was DVLA wise.

Hi, Yes I remember that one, It caused quite a ferfuffle with people questioning his plans and the legality of it and him not seeing a problem with it. He got quite upset about the grief he was getting and took his ball in and the thread with it. Colin

People always rabbit on about BIVA sh!t on here and chase folk away. Let the builder make that decision, and just enjoy the engineering. I'd rather they didn't jeopardise the future of the car modifying hobby further by publically displaying how much they are flouting the rules. That may just be me though. Also if it is built well (and depending on the "top" vehicle) they should be able to pass a BIVA. Lash two cars together with little thought to how it will all work and it probably shouldn't come as a surprise that the powers that be don't want it on the road.

I agree, but who is to know at times, if they are intending using these cars on the road? People are quick to judge. I actually asked the guy building the Nova/Evo if he is going down that route (but minus the sarcasm and internet expert persona you often see on here) and he said if he puts it on the road, then yes. Fair enough, I say. On with the builds!

^ good points by @outrun - I love the thought and effort that goes into body-swaps (old shell onto modern performance floorpan etc), but my first thought is often "how can you legally get that on the road in the UK" I'll admit I'm often guilty of assuming I'm looking at a road project, when it could well be a pure track/off-road/"fun" build. As said above - on with the build threads

One of my mates is building a Volvo c70 coupe driftcar..
He is using a complete bmw 1 series floorpan and suspension and stuff. Wheelbase is equal and even the width of the floorpan is dead on.
I'll try to place some pics from it.

Dvla is not an issue since i'm Dutch. ;-) Our rules are not very clear so we can get away with more stuff. As long if you document every small detail and have receipts of EVERYTHING and all the logbooks of all he cars used and in your name, and you pass the safetytests in Lelystad. Then your good to go. I did it , an it took a while , but I passed. Making a fiat 600 into a convertible

Went to rdw for the engineswap and half an hour and sixty euros later we got the ok. Fully legal now.
