It seems a few people do research and then put their opinion out as gospel.

Never driven one, however the 'cutesie, bubble-look' of the whole car never appealed to me. I know the original is not exactly rectangluar, but it has charm and character. In my opiniom (which obviously is all this rant is!) I think the designers attempted to engineer that charm and character with a modern mindset, and stuffed it up. In short, don't do it man!! If you want a different way of moving about, that as a man will make you stick out like no other, i suggest it may be better to go and buy a horse 😊

The look is very much a marmite thing, you like them or you don't. From a practicality side, the boot is tiny (but you can drop the rear seat) and head room in the back isn't great (but happily had 4 adults in mine with out issue). But other than that, if your looking a modernish car to get you from A-B for £500 that you could have some cheap fun with, it fits that bill well enough. And from a personal perspective, I'd rather drive about in one of these than in a Mk4 golf/focus/Astra

Saw a green metallic one yesterday on the motorway and imagined cut off traffic cones over its spine like a dinosaur. Sikaflex would probably hold them down. Painted green of course. As you say Craig, practical? Not in the way a wagon is. Blistering pace? Not unless you have a fast one. Interesting? Yes, at least visually etc. Cheap? Yes. Marmite.

Being a fan of the original jeans beetle, a modern take might float my boat The only downside being, I am not a fan of the faux retro styling, both the beetle and the fiat 500 just strike me as a marketing ploy, as opposed to an evolution of the original Ttfn Glenn

So by bringing them back and making them retro styled it means you get some of the look with all the mod cons.

To me both the originals were basic utilitarian transport, I think of the UP as filling that market segment for vw now, the current beetle is several levels up. Or you could say the 911 is the true decendant of the original beetle, through its many evolutions Ttfn Glenn

The 911 was a completely new design over the Porsche 356 which was based on the Beetle.

There used to be one near my school and I used to go and drool at it. I was toying witj the idea of one of these a while back but decided not to bother. If I could have found one like that above I would definitely had a punt.

So of course the question is......??
Has anyone decided to splash the cash and build something interesting?
Or slap some paint or graphics onto a cheap New Beetle?

There is a mark green one for sale at the moment on some pretty cool wheels and interior. I will have to have a look for it. I think they made one of these with the R32 engine from factory which I think is pretty cool. Although I own one of these with a roof chop (mk1 3.2 TT) I don't think I could drive the beetle, despite them being pretty cool. I sold my van to a chap who had a US import on Fuchs. A roof chopped TT? Where are the pictures!!

Bucket meals are totally off the menu due to window restrictions. A roof chopped TT? Where are the pictures!! I tried to un-see it when I bought mine, and I kind of have to a degree, however they do kinda (as far as I see it) look like a squished beetle

TT's are growing on me faster than these beetles are but there is a local white one rolling about half an inch of the floor that looks quite good.
