MOT: Expired April 2014
Needs welding to jacking points - rest of car is in good original shape. Breaking it would yield plenty more than the asking price - I don't have the time to fix/break it. Currently not starting - unsure as to the issue but probably related to having the battery disconnected all winter. Battery seems to test ok but starter not engaging.
There's loads of photos detailing the condition here: Photo Album (apologies for it being photobucket!!)
Up for sale is my old BMW 740i Sport that I took off the road nearly 3 years ago with the intention of either repairing it or breaking it for spares.
The reason for this was that the jacking points had rotted out and collapsed when I changed a flat tyre! I decided to drive it to my folks farm in West Cumbria and store it there until I got time to either weld it up, or strip it for spares as the rest of the car was in good original condition. Sadly I never got round to doing either - living 2+ hours away on the East coast wasn't exactly handy, and any visits back there were spent with my folks rather than under a car! I'm now the proud owner of a 6 month old small human so the reality of ever doing anything with the BMW is long gone.
Bought in 09/12 from a guy in Leeds - I think I'm the 4th keeper but as the logbook is with the car I can't be sure. I do remember the first keeper was a BMW main dealer - I'm guessing the boss man had this to smoke around in. There's a folder full of history with the car also.
This is a genuine "Sport" model with the anthracite headlining, uprated torque converter, and lower ratio rear diff (740 Sport ID'ing)
Overall the car is in pretty good shape, even after it has been sat for nearly 3 years - my dad starts it up now and again and give it a run around the yard to make sure it still runs.
It has a complete set of 5 genuine staggered (8J Front & Spare, 9.5J Rear) M-parallel style 37 18" forged alloys. The rears have Falken tyres, fronts need replacing (one is flat and they're Champiro branded) Spare is a Michellin. They do suffer from a bit of kerb rash, but are straight and unbuckled - the missing centre cap in the picture is due to the spare being fitted.
Rear discs (Pagid) and pads (Textar) were replaced by me so are nearly new. I have a set of new front discs (Pagid) and pads (Textar) that I never got round to fitting - these will come with the car at the asking price.
Alternator replaced with a reconditioned unit around 9 months before it came off the road. Coolant hose at rear of engine also replaced due to leak.
Engine was running fine when parked up, and the autobox was changing smoothly. Pulls like a train and really flies for such a big barge!! 150k miles.
Interior is the Sport model all black leather with sport steering wheel and black headlining - this is in excellent condition. I have removed the TV/Radio/Satnav/Phone from the cabin and the DVD player etc from the boot - this was done with a view to selling them. I still have them so they will come with the car. Everything was removed properly so it will all go back in, just needs fitting.
The bodywork is pretty tidy with the exception of the rear corners of the front doors, the bottom edge of the boot lid, and the panel directly below the boot lid - these are detailed in the photo album.
The extent of the rot on the jacking points is shown in the photo album - I'm guessing it would be repairable if you had the kit/time but cost prohibitive if paying someone else.
Overall a great big smooth V8 cruising barge, and the rarer "Sport" model. Ideal to fix up and cruise around in if you have the skills/tools/time, or take it away and strip it for spares and make some money - the interior, wheels, new discs are worth more than the asking price alone.
