1987 525e in Lachs silver. 139600ish miles. MOT until June.
This car has been owned by at least three RR members including Bavarian Retro and has a build thread at: retrorides.proboards.com/thread/97035/1987-525e-historic-thread-revival
(Pics to go with that thread at s191.photobucket.com/user/paulcwrx/library/bmw%20pics?sort=3&page=1 )
I've had the car a couple of years now, have used it as my daily and it's never let me down. I work from home and having recently got the travelling bug, it's time to let the shark go as I hardly use her.
Details
Lachs silver with shadowline and de-chrome options makes it look pretty stealth. The bodywork is good and it's been treated with Bilt Hamber Dynax UB by Bavarian Retro. Arches and wings are all rot free. The sunroof has a couple of bubbles, there's a dent on the leading edge of the bonnet, a patch on the drivers door skin and the inner frames of the rear doors are rusty, but do not show externally. Rear light seal replaced with BMW part recently. Clear repeaters and 15" Style 5 alloys.
It drives fine and the auto box changes up and down smoothly and kicks down when required. Radiator replaced with a good used one along with good used cooler lines and a new top hose from BMW. Belts, backbox, rear brakes, track rods, centre rod and lower arms replaced since I've had it.
The interior is good. The seats are unworn and there is barely a mark on any of the interior trim. Heater, dials, central locking and front electric windows work. The dashboard is uncracked and there is an SE steering wheel fitted along with a stitched leather gear shift. Alpine head unit, iPod in glove box, JBL speakers up front with amp and sub in boot. Fake alarm LED to put people off breaking into it. Boot and bootlid toolkits present.
New battery and AFM hose this week along with a recent oil change, plugs and distributor cap.
Parts included
Cambelt
Rocker gasket
Used air flow meter from BM Classic Spares
Brand new fuel pump
Brand new washer pump
I'll include in all my valeting stuff as well including Autoglym products, microfibres, grit guard bucket etc as I won't need it any more.
Bad bits
Reversing lights don't work
Few bits of rust as described above
Minor water leak to boot area - I think it's the aerial hole grommet
Clock doesn't work
No history from before I bought it, folder full of receipts for work and parts since
Summary
Overall it's a solid, original example that's been a reliable daily drive with lots of bits replaced during my ownership. She's not a show car and viewing is recommended to check out the condition for yourself.
Please PM to discuss a viewing or if you have any (sensible) questions.
Cheers, Nick
