Started to fit the new engine back together. I'd have just chucked it in but the fella said that it was smokey on idle. The bottom end was perfect apart from slight glazing to the bores. So I gave them a quick hone with my Chinease honing tool, seems to have done an ok job. I popped a couple of rings out and slotted them in the block. They seem great so just chucked them back in. This engine seems to have had a rebuild not long ago. Cleaned most of it and bolted it all back together. It still spins over nicely. I've had the head skimmed. I'll fit new valve stem seals, clean up and lap the valves back in. I had the exhaust manifold flattened a bit as it was bent like a banana. It's not perfect, but alot better now. I had the flywheel skimmed, and a bit of weight taken out of it, not alot, but its nearly a kilo lighter. New ECU Bores honed. Rotating assembly back together. This is the before weight of the flywheel, i've lost the pic of after. But it's .9kg lighter.

Progress slowed as I changed my daily car and spent a bit of time putting the old one back to standard. Anyway, new engine has had a refresh. It appears to have been rebuilt recently so didn't need alot of work. Basically, the work was skimmed head, honed bores, new sump and crank seals. New waterpump from last engine, as well as gaskets/seals throughout. Not a rebuild, but a refresh. Combined with a slightly lightened flywheel, standalone ECU and new clutch, I think it'll be a bit of fun. Next trackday is booked for less than 2 weeks on June 3rd, again with captainbland08 from here in his Nissan Micra. I tried doing the valve stem seals, but with my spring compressor. it made it near impossible to refit the collets. Took me 30 mins to do one valve. So I just hope they're ok. Head on Water pump, timed up. Covers on etc. Exhaust mani has been lineshed a bit to flatten it. Skimmed/cut back flywheel. Unsure on valve cover, probably just stick it on. Just need to fit a couple more bolts, flywheel/clutch and gearbox. And then stick it back in. Run in the rings, and map it ready for the next track outing.

Managed to cobble together some air con fittings to get the oil pressure sender and turbo feed fitted together. I just unhooked the sender before and ran the turbo feed. Engine is back in. Lot's of struggle and some lost nuts and bolts. Got some stuff hooked up and spun it over on the starter. Seems smooth enough and the oil pressure gauge rose a little, not as much as i'd have liked though. I'm hoping it'll get better when I connect the turbo feed, I just had it open to the oil filler. Also I've got some thinner 5w30 in it at the moment to give it a flush through, as it wasn't the cleanest of constructions. Then i'll drop in some 10w40 once I know it's all good. 10 days until next trackday. Just got to finish putting it back together, run it in, and get the the new ECU installed and mapped.

Couldn't get it to start. Immobiliser kicked in so managed to bypass that. Then the immobiliser started working again. Then couldn't get it to start for ages. So realised I timed the cams in back to front, stripped front of the engine down, re-timed it. And it started it straight up. It's a bit tappety, but smooth enough with lots of oil pressure. Mostly back together now. Still need to hook up a few things like clutch, gear linkage and a couple other bits and bobs. Trackday in 1 week.
