I can't believe there's a C-50 scene.. and all those customs!!
I found mine on the way back from the pub one snowy night. I was walking from Clapham Old town to Brixton.. winter 2002? And there it was lying on its side looking sorry for itself but more or less complete. I came back a couple of days later and pushed it back to my flat, stuck it in the garden and wrote to the DVLA. The reply came back that it was clear and I went ahead and registered it. A mate and I and a few bottles of Pride got it running then MoT'ed. Probably stolen, ridden til empty then dumped. Just had to replace some of the light lens' and fit a part worn tyre. I toured the UK on it summer of 2004 saying farewell to all my mates before I left. I remember it cost me 2 sheets in juice to drive from Brixton to Stroud on the first hop!
In the 90s they were dumped everywhere in London. Mostly in beater condition. The old round headlight cubs were worthless. The blokes doing the London taxi 'knowledge' had driven them into the ground. When I left I had to remove several wrecks from my garden.. people were always phoning me saying.. hey, there's a C-50 dumped down the road. Kids loved nicking them and then chucking them. I also had a '69 C-90 with 600 miles on it given to me by my neighbour when I was a teenager. I'll dig some photos..
I really thought there was no interest at all. People used to ask me all the time if I was delivering pizzas. When I sat at the lights with other 'real' bikes they looked at me like I was a kid on a pushbike.
I looked through my photobucket and this is the only pic I've got... yeah it's the Tigra... but just underneath. 1979 C-50 totally standard, running but un-registered in D and therefore unridden since 2006
