With the suicide rear doors I'd want to make the most of them & go pillarless like the Lancia's for wow factor, rather than ordinary 2-doors. Though the initial image of a fairly standard & still dignified looking body, channeled low & possibly de-bumpered does appeal.

This car is why a Rover P4 is on my bucket list.

Despite a real fondness for old Rovers I still find the P4 a hard one to call.
Compared to the P5, P6 and SD1 they are quite difficult to do something with and actually get it right, whilst like it's three successors it's surprisingly easy to completely ruin them.
There's a couple of the ones posted in this thread that look spot on to my eye, but others that I really don't care for. Lowering them does seem to help proportions some, although they do look like they want to be a bit wider for the height of the car, although I suppose if you made it a bit wider, altered the roof line and prodded it a little to make it a bit more right to my eye, you wouldn't be far off the P5.
I'd probably still buy one at the right price though.

the limiting factor becomes the bit I circled. Mine is now less than 2" from the floor and is the first point of contact with the ground at speed bumps , potholes etc. the rear should come down fairly well using standard blocks, Mine just hasn't been done yet. The exhaust as stock sits high in the chassis so is not a problem. and here is how mine looks next to two stock P4 100s Can I ask how you lowered the front? chopped the springs, or replaced them? cheers Andy

A neighbour has a P4 under a tarp on his driveway, it's a sorry looking thing and I lack the creativity to see it as anything other than a sorry old car slowly decaying. Maybe I should show him this thread!

Thanks psycho83 ive just recently scored a 55 P4 model 60. so First thing is to drop it low as possible.
do you still have suspension travel that low?
I'm seriously tempted to air bag the front end, but really want to keep it cheap and cheerful.
there's a 3.9 RR V8 and zf 4hp22 box sat in the garage thats hopefully going in the old girl early next year.
cheers for the info and pics.

Always thought these would work as a woody wagon, with the Jaguar AJ6 lump up front.... If only for a huge lump of disposable cash and hours of free time!

The old giffers in the P4 Guild had a hissy fit over this car , which amused me greatly. I'd love to have the skills to cram something along those lines in mine.

Tell you what, the Jensen wheels look pretty lush on a P4, that should be a thing that happens more often.

I guess it went something along the lines of 'youve ruined that.... exactly that , some of the members won't even tolerate electronic ignition , so this blew minds. The words 'ruined British heritage' were thrown about . It amazes me how upset some of these grown ass adults get over what is a fairly common car. Though I guess it happens in all dedicated owners groups
