Hi Guys I`ve noticed that the Japanese tuning guys seem to gut the axle stub ends off there rear beams and weld a plate to the cut end of the axle and remount the stubs higher, So in effect lowering the car further without the need of coilies or really short springs I will try and find a picture to explain what I`m trying to say My questions are is this a good idea? (strong enough for road use?) And would it be ok for Mot etc? Cheers Adrian JIC Ground Zero Axle

Any lower aspect of beam, such as shock mounts, will be closer to the ground than using shorter springs.

What car? the stub axles unbolt on a lot of them. If you can spare 10mm in offset you can get drop plates for most normal VW stuff that bolt between the stub axle and the main axle and move the wheels up 70mm or so.

it's how fwd transit and the old connect are done (probably loads of others as well) you could use the axle or part of it from these.

As some one has mentioned before, it is possible to get lowering plates which do what you describe but without the need for welding.
From my memory drift works was selling something similar, but a bit more fancy which might be worth a look.
As a direct answer to the question I haven't, nor do I know anyone who has.

Like anything its fine if its engineered properly
You can see how they have done it in the picture. A nice machined drop bracket that slots over the axle tube and actually holds the stub axle too. Alot stronger than just butt welding something.

Blast from the past but had to update I ended up doing it. Lowered, narrowed and added 1.5deg camber on a beam for my Alto Ended up not using it but I might still give it a try
