So I thought I could live with a 316i, turns out I was wrong, it isn't really quick enough for what I want. What I really wanted was a 318IS coupe.
So here for sale is a reasonably tidy and straight E36. The rear arches are a bit scabby. I removed the rust and treated them with several coats of zinc primer, then a coat of silver paint to make them look reasonable.
The passenger side rear arch could do with a small repair section welding in (below the side trim). The rest of the arch is fairly solid and perfectly acceptable IMO on a cheap car.
The rest of the bodywork is pretty good. Underneath is solid.
MOT: june 17
Engine is the 1.6 8v 102 bhp unit with timing chain and has covered 128k. Oil has been changed in the last two weeks, as have the plugs and air filter. Also fitted a new thermostat as the engine wasn't getting up to temp on cold mornings. Rear exhuast section is fairly new. Starts on the button, revs well. Can't really fault it reliability wise.
Wheels have been replaced with 16" 1 series alloys shod with 4 matched kumho tyres with around 4mm tread left (i'll knock £150 off the asking price if you have your own wheels or £100 off if you want it on the std wheels).
ABS sensor intermittently comes on, so this will need looking at. One rear brake line has been replaced with copper. Remaining OE rear line cleaned up and wax-oiled. Brakes have plenty of life left in the pads.
Interior is tidy. No rips or holes, scrubs up pretty well. Has dual climate control which works, pop out rear windows, electric front windows,M sport steering wheel and gearknob, oh, and the original bmw stereo! Remote central locking, pass door sometimes doesn't lock on the fob, so there is probably a loose wire to sort there.
Price is £SOLD, I think it is a pretty fair price for a solid e36 coupe shell with long mot, that would no doubt be perfect for an engine swap if you are that way inclined or just to tidy up and keep std. Can't be too many coupes left which haven't been messed with.
would consider px for an e36 318is, 325 tds or any manual e36 touring
