So far the LEDs have been fine, headlights give much more vision at night, interior ones are very slightly blue but are working fine, haven't really tried out the tailgate ones yet, but if too bright I can remove a section or if not bright enough, It's easy to add more. Running roughly 90% veg and 10% petrol with a splash of Morris diesel additive. The 2.4 vw motor has a bit of a reputation for the throttle spindle seals failing, usually at high mileages though, but seal kits are cheap and fairly easy to fit Current veg price at Costco is about 80p a litre and diesel at the Tesco opposite is 1.20. At the moment I have 80 litres in stock, which at current rates will save me 32 pounds. Or another way of looking at it can be, the van does at least 30 mpg so veg cost savings give an equivalent to 45mpg Here's a better picture of the cupboard The picture doesn't show how flipping heavy it is!! The electrical gremlins have decided to return and set up home in the fuel gauge At the left is the proof that I have a screw loose? Currently having some bright sunshine, which has shown the screen to be covered in micro scratches, a session of cleaning, clay bar and polish has made it better, not perfect but a lot less glare. Mainly been working on turning a pair of filing cabinets into a cooking pod for Fungus. Here they are waiting for the epoxy to harden Just need to add some carbon composite and would be up with hypercar technology. Needed new locks for the drawers, so a trip to screwfix got me a pair of keyed alike camlocks They are now fitted and once the glue has set, the drawers can be refitted to the carcass. Ttfn Glenn

Some time ago, a friend told me that a George foreman grille was very useful when you were camping with a hookup power supply. Popped into lidl on my way home from work and spotted this So now I can have healthy grilling on the go Ttfn Glenn

Progress has been a bit slow on Fungus lately, installed extra power points which are still to be wired in. Picked up a set of alloys with tyres to spruce up Fungus Just leant in place to see how Fungus looks with new boots, just need to sort some new wheel bolts. Currently having starting problems, checks point towards glow plug issues, just need to get moving with fitting the new ones I bought months ago. Ttfn Glenn Ps once started, runs fine on straight vegetable oil

Trip to the parts store secured some wheel bolts and a 17/19mm wheel wrench, 19 for the original bolts and 17 for the alloys, a bit of jack and brace action saw the alloys in place Luckily the side doors clear the tyres. Just. Ttfn Glenn

The clean and shiny wheels and tyres made the assorted black trim look very grey, the various snake oils only seem to last for a week or two, boot polish didn't seem to work on vw plastics, I didn't fancy peanut butter, so it was looking like I would have to paint them, a bit of research raised another option, Hot air gun, this appealed to me as I already had the gun and I like playing with power tools This is half way through the back bumper, got it finished then rain stopped play Ttfn Glenn

Do you do anything else other than heat the bumper up?
That looks really good, my Polo has grey bumpers that need sorting.

Hot air gun was all I did, you can see the effects by comparing opposite ends of the bumper, some of the plastics were unaffected such as the grill and tailgate handle Ttfn Glenn

Just one suggestion, get some boiled linseed oil and rub it into the bumper afterwards, the hot air gun trick works brilliantly but it will fade again and the heating can dry the oils in the plastic out and make them crack, the linseed oil stops this.

When I bought Fungus, I knew the arches all had some dodgy filler repairs, today was the day, to knock back some brave pills, fire up the angry grinder, and find out how little metal was left under the filler Started at the front Not to bad at all, mainly just filler over surface rust. Tried the next arch Same story, filler over surface rust but with a few parking scrapes. All four arches were pretty solid, with some dents in the rear ones. Why on earth go to the bother of putting filler and paint over rust? Covered the bare metal with some lidl paint for now, will have to get some proper paint and some filler for the dents Trying to decide wether to stay one colour or give Fungus a two tone makeover Ttfn Glenn

Good progress, Glenn. Love the updates and I particularly like the DIY cooker pod idea, I made one for mine a few years ago and it's proved really useful. Here's a couple of pics, the layout might help plan yours? I kept the compressor fridge from my previous T4 and used that, but bought a small Smev cooker/sink unit and plumbed it in. I will admit that I am no expert with woodworking so my brother in law helped with the jigsaw! We made it out of cheap 9mm (I think) ply offcuts which I vinyl wrapped. The vinyl finish wasn't brilliant and the vinyl peels a bit in hot weather, so I might build a mk2 version if I ever get round to it with some improvements Sausage cooking and brewing pics! Cheers, Stu

Twin sliders rule!! Do like that pod, but I shall be going low tech/budget with mine, the cooking will be done with two camping burners and sink duties will be accomplished using a kettle and washing up bowl. Needing to create a windbreak for the back of it and source some handles for lifting it around. Planning to line the drawers with insulation to reduce the noises from cans and pots rattling around. Lidl were doing a 12volt oil pump today Comes in handy for filling Fungus with veg. They are also doing trolley jacks, but they might be a bit high for some of you, as its 135 mm at its lowest, Ttfn Glenn

Fungus decided, today was a good day to break down, suddenly had a floppy gearstick and only 3rd and 4th, turned around to go home, and normal service resumes, then only two gears again, got home using 3 and 4, checking linkage while son stirs the stick, shows a bush has failed at some time in the past, It's been "fixed" using a cable tie, which has now broken. New bush kit on order, but until it arrives I will have to make do with a cable tie, have to drive to the shed to get them, so whilst there, I finally keep my promise to No2 son. Take one old office chair, one golf seat, some lessons in hacksawing followed by a session of sparky machine, and as if by magic, one custom gaming chair. It was a bit of a squeeze getting, the two of us, the chair and the dog into a 107 Can you spot the grumpy dog?

Yesterday the bush kit for the gear linkage arrived, several hours later saw, the broken part fixed, the connecting part broken, me with assorted scrapes up my arms and the linkage still held together with a cable tie. Today Fungus redeemed himself, by collecting a mattress for daughter, taking rubbish to the tip, then shifting some junk for a friend. A filing cabinet, which will go to the shed, A 3/4 sized desk. Which has been earmarked as a housewarming present. And a pair of these. For my sons guitar practice??? Ttfn Glenn

Spent some of today wire wheeling more filler out of Fungus. A scar from the mean streets of Glasgow. Looking like Fungus may have some Fiat DNA. As they used to specialize in holes in middle of panels. All covered with some of lidl's finest metal paint, until I get round to fixing it properly. My order of boiled linseed oil arrived, so now Fungus has some really shiny, black bumpers, just need to see how well they stand up to the Scottish summer Ttfn Glenn
