Wow I never realised Japanesse cars didn't rust - all these years I've been driving around in tin worm infested Vauxhalls when I could have been welder free in a Japanesse car How stupid of me ;D Depends how well looked after your car is

never had a first time pass. always get nervous, usually about it being terminal (especially with tango) but i opted for the befriend tester option. it worked today and i've a new ticket on a car that probably needs a rear wheel bearing doing soonish... and he told me to mind my plates don't fall off and gave me a big grin*. and we watched a 3500 vitesse go through just before me **. * i failed a month ago on 3 things, one being dodgy (nice font) plates. i used some velcro stickypads to secure the new ones over my nice ones ** we have testing stations, about 8/10 in northern ireland, and no 'garage' affiliation. imagine a hangar with three lanes with testing equipment at intervals along the lanes... like a conveyor process

I just check it over properly before I go....no worries. Although I did almost fail last year on a sidelight bulb that literally blew on the way to the testing station........nice...

I've had 3 MOTs on the Mira and one on the Charmant. Yet to receive an advisory on any of them. Does this stop me worrying? Definitely not!!
I'd just hate for it to fail on something minor, so I tend to be very obsessive about checking things like bulbs and tyres on a regular basis, then I do a mega check before MOT. If I find something borderline, I'll replace it as otherwise I'll just be sat there worrying whether it'll fail - for something like a slightly dragging wiper it isn't worth the risk. It'd have to be replaced sooner or later, so might as well get it sorted.
However, I've talked to my colleagues about this and they don't do any sort of checks before they take it for MOT, which surprised me. Surely they could save themselves some bother by checking just simple stuff like bulbs, tread depth, wipers before they go?

i've been nervous all day despite the car not being tested until 3.00pm. i have spent many late evenings in,out and under the car doing as much as i can first to get it to run (complete ignition system, exhaust, gaskets and a carb rebuild) then many a night sorting things like sticking wheel cylinders, bad earths on lights, the indicators took some time to sort (and severe frustration) and then a whole day getting it looking nice again, new carpet, cheesy centre console(thanks for that comment GJM ;D) but i'm at home now feeling relieved and utterly knackered but happy its over for another year. it would have been soooooo frustrating had it failed ,because i would have had to put even more work and probably cash in than i already have and having missed one major event deadline i didnt fancy missing any more.

most testers would rather see some older tackle than the drudgery of modern cars
