Some might say looks don't come into a budget build, truth be told I could ride it looking like  yeah, but where's the fun in that? Before:  Sand sand baby, sand sand your life away, this took mere minutes with the orbital, I'll continue to flat it back, don't want anything to show through the vinyl   |

Original colour was black, some nugget painted it purple before the po did a good job making it black again. Hence the overspray on the frame and generally everywhere.

Cleared up and sorted the wiring at the front now so that all works, just waiting on the headlight mounts now so I can have that area finished.  |

I was awoken from my slumber today by a hard knock at the door by a man and his red van holding what appeared to be a few early christmas presents, all for me... woo. I went straight to work unboxing and fitting to the bike. First things first, I fit the new oil cooler lines which had to be shipped second hand from Germany, hopefully when I refill it with oil they don't leak in the same spot as the ones that come off! Front brake lever. £8. Once fitted and bled I found the brakes very on/off, to the point where just 1cm or so of travel would mean locking up the front wheel. Not really helpful on a two wheeled thingumybob, that was when I remembered the banjo on the original master cylinder had a different diameter hole to that of the ET2 one, the ET2 one being the smaller and more restrictive of the two seen here. I tried the ET2 one and the brakes are as good as they should be, lever doesn't travel too far and has really progressive and strong feel without being stiff at all. Success!  Next up was the headlight mounts and indicators, fitted and secured.  A little oddly proportioned at the moment, I'm trying to get my hands on the "offroad" version of this bikes tail tidy which will shorten it up a lot, currently the frame runs up to the end of the exhaust can which I don't want. |

So the vinyl has arrived but only just so I haven't had time to fiddle yet, I have however been for a first ride up and down the street to test brakes, gears and current jetting. Fun! Turning circle is an , I've only ever ridden offroad bikes or scooters, this is much different, feels fast (even though it's not) probably something to do with leaning right down over the tank. I need to adjust the gear shift position as it's very awkward to do at the moment without looking down or fumbling my foot around, alright when sitting still but when moving I found it un-natural, I'll probably just rotate it so it sits lower. Since I'm a faggot and told you guys about work I did but never showed you, here are the pictures to the headlight mounts and oil cooler lines...   Here's the huge roll of vinyl. Cost about £13 from fleabay.  Here's a video of it running on the new carb. I think the idle circuit is a bit rich but thats no bother as I have plenty of jets and other settings to play with. |

Been riding for a bit now, still haven't decided on what direction to go with the tail yet. plastidipped the forks and frame last weekend, still haven't bothered rubbing off the overspray yet. Some may say I'm lazy, some may say, new years and christmas got in the way.  keen eyed amongst you will notice that the rear shock is different. Well the original one started to leak shortly after MOT time so I bought a Honda MSX (Grom) adjustable one with remote reservoir for cheap and sorted an adaptor to make it the right length.  |

This weeks fettlings have resulted in this, still super rat in person but I'm quite liking where this is going. The tail section looks far better now not bulbous at all.  |

A long time has passed, the garden patio and fence cleaned,plants grew and I swapped the Sachs for a Kawasaki KH100EX with a friend, her Cheap moped dropped a valve and needed a working vehicle I suggested for her to get a new GY6 engine because they're cheap as chips but she wanted gears instead. She bought it (the kawasaki) from one of her friends who'd had ideas of putting it back together but never did, she was going to do the same until the ped stopped abruptly. Oddly it must have a 110 or 125cc engine because the side casing she bought for it never fit over the stator she had and the kh100 flywheel never fit the crank so I need to measure the piston up soon. I took a week off work as you do and had nothing better to do so set about splitting it down with what I had sitting about in the garage. Having never seen a 50cc piston I was amazed at just how small it was, the timing chain was like jewelry it was that tiny.  It amazingly fit in the forester without removing anything. Just folded the car seats down. Love this car more and more everyday!  On arrival at home.  The last time the two bikes saw each other.  It was in reasonably good condition having been stored in various garages since the turn of the new millennium just the wiring has gone hard in some places and a few bits are missing or don't make sense so more research will be carried out. A little bit of sanding and rust remover/converter here and there. It was so nice last weekend I even moved the worktable out into the garden.      It was starting to look like a bike again quite quickly  I ordered a few bits and am going to hopefully convert it from 6V to 12V electronics. One of the mysteries is the stator plate that came with the bike, it's completely different to literally all pictures of the ones that should come on the bike and there are no points on it as well as having no part numbers to run so I think I'll be buying an original one due to not having timing marks on this one, oddly, it fits and its currently on the bike (though I have no idea if it works yet due to having other missing electronics (no rectifier etc) I have read that Kawasaki changed the bike from 6v to 12v in the early 90's but I have no evidence of the age of the engine and there's literally nothing with this stator design online.  The shock seals were properly shot so I attempted to split them down only fall at the first hurdle, the bolt on the bottom kept spinning and the "old broom" trick wasn't doing me any favours so I found some more online and they should arrive in the next few days. This is the part inside the shock that I couldn't get to stay still.   I started to clean up little bits here and there including brackets and handle bar bits one day it was raining.  Today the new seat got mounted up, need to find straighter bars and get the new shocks cleaned up before new pads and other small bits get done. Liking it so far. Much more so than the Sachs anyway.  |

A few details people may not notice like the tops of the shocks where it mounts to the frame that were bare aluminium got painted black instead of leaving it bare, the engine got painted with high temp paint after cleaning, the side cases got very lightly polished and I tried to replace all old bolts with new if I had them spare in the garage, I also swapped the rather scary Philips head screws holding the engine casings together for a stainless steel Allen head set. I'm thinking the headlight brackets which slide over the forks need reversing upside down to sit the headlight lower, I'll do that later on and the wheels need polishing up and re-blacking.

Cool! I have a kh125 I chopped up for the wife to ride. Not finished it yet but frame got all brackets removed and rear cut off. ZXR rearsets, flat bars, dropped lights, AR125 micron cut into loads of pieces and reasembled so it fits, hand made seat. Its great and sounds epic. I can pic it up on my own so should go well  |

You have Motivated me enough to at least go and take a pic of it! Maybe ill get it finished before summer. Only needs rear light and indicators, bit of wiring and the rearsets refitting.  |

Looks cool as! I did think about cutting my frame etc but in the end I decided all mods need to be reversible and I've kept all the original bits. My brother had a black kh with a micron, must have been 5 years ago or so, he had it running but it wasn't great, we popped the head and barrel off to discover a piston that was very bowed in the middle but not holed yet, I don't recall what actually happened to that bike in the end, I think he left it in one of his friends sheds in Lincoln and presume it got sold on or scrapped. Funny how things come about isn't it hah! Wish I had the micron now having seen prices... Edit: found a picture  |

I looked for a kh micron for a while then gave up. The AR one came up cheap (and very dented) so I made it fit.
Was a nightmare juggling pipe/rearset/brake lever/kickstart to get it all in the same space but managed it eventually. Had to S bend the kickstart lever though.
If you drop the headlights, its not that hard to make the clock bracket mount from underneath and get the clocks down level with the yokes.

You can see the rearset bracket next to the oil tank. Footpegs now sit above the exhaust!
Its cramped, but I recon I will be able to ride it (6'3"). But its mainly built to fit my 5' wife.

I must confess to not getting anything done over the weekend on the KH, the other half was entertaining guests on Saturday afternoon and I was helping sort my brothers Cagiva Mito for its own MOT. I had the garage door propped open early Saturday morning and was still in my PJ's with a tea in hand faffing about as you do wondering what I could get done in the few hours whilst the other half was at work before the house had to be 120% tidy and presentable in places I never even knew people would look or existed, a lad and a lady came creeping in to raise funds for Battersee Dog's home. Unfortunately after "That's a nice moped thing" I wasn't leaving any subscription money with them, well that and we're going to be buying new (if you could call it that) puppies soon anyway, Sausage dogs 3 and 4 to be called Sage and Onion, apt for sausages and because I work with fruit and veg etc. Fortunately the lad had a small knowledge of motorbikes to sort of redeem himself, enough to know none of them are a KTM anyway, I think none of them being bright orange was a good clue On another note, I joined the KH facebook page, yes there is one...for Thailand. I stuck a picture up witha bit of info about the bike and what I was doing to it which I believe is the norm when joining a fan page, a couple of hours passed and I received a message asking for me to sell my wheels from a fella in Malaysia, he's a serious buyer too (as they all are). Wonder what I should charge him for them, I think I'll try my luck, £6000. Hopefully, he'll see I'm a serious seller and buying things which aren't advertised as for sale means a good offer has to be made. Surely they're common over there enough to not ask someone from England?! |

Not long finished at work and decided to utilise the computer for some googlefoo (We don't have a computer at home, or internet for that matter - literally the most backwards under 30 family going!) I decided to google the exhaust mentioned above by VW for the AR to see if there were any available and what would you know... I found what stator plate I have... AR125 ha! Brilliant. Since I haven't got a clue just yet how to get this thing going using that and can't find a wiring diagram for an AR online, I'll be finding kh125 points etc and going back to that to get it running in standard form then think about 12v from there.  |

If your looking at ar exhausts, bear in mind the front 6" curved section I had to cut into 4 or 5 pieces. I then had to cut the expansion chamber up into the different cone sections and alter the angles, then cut off the tailpipe section to get the can sitting right. Then needed a bracket making.
pedals will no longer fit so you will need to move them and as I already said, kickstart needs bending.
I had trouble finding stator etc for decent money, ended up rewinding mine and then they turned out not to be my running issue anyway.
