To be fair if it is a genuine one and is as good as it looks then that is a very good price, I'm a bit out of date but I would say the same car in Aus would be Aus$70-100k But yes sadly out of my price range.
Did South Africa get the later XD and XE falcons/ fairmonts fitted with a 351?
Any idea on a landing date for yours?

MULTI QUOTE Top right of each post there is a small "gear cog" button, click on it and hit "Select post" for every one you want to quote, then hit reply down the bottom...... Fill in comments to various selected posts. The little red Rocket looks lovely. Thanks grizz, for some reason I started at the end of the thread tonight, so saw you post last - still a multi quote virgin

(Sorry for the thread Hijack) I would love to build either a Greens Tuf or Army Reserves themed Falcon, almost nobody here in the UK would have a clue what it was all about

Well, at least that didnt take too long to sort out . . . . . . . . . . . there is movement at last (I'm sure they could have sent a bigger truck) exporting is easy in theory, its amazing how a mixture of incompetance, cultural differences, and a little bit of duff information thrown in by the police can slow things down, and just to make it about as bad as it could get my SA friend very sadly losing his mother in the middle of everything too on the plus side, he now has some very good contacts for viewing (his cousin), shipping and most importantly a guy who export clears vehicles for some "oh look whats that crumpled bundle of paper on the floor over there" Loaded in the container (wasted space is bad but after the grief we just wanted them on the way) on the boat which left Durban yesterday, and its just 21 days at sea, which is much quicker than expected, I'm guessing the crew is going home for xmas I'm putting something together for the process, pitfalls, what to look out for etc. if anyone spots something they are interested in I can link you up.

Dragging this back from the depths, really meant to update this long ago, but you know - stuff and things, then suddenly its years later. it was reading what Grenade was doing to a Willys that spurred me on.
Many updates incoming.
After arrival it all went a bit pear shaped, we had trusted a company to sort it all, as we were shipping noobs – this company subbed it out to another equally inept bunch of penis heads. First of all there was some delays at the port, multiple customs inspections was the excuse I was given, felt sure there was more to it but I could never get to the bottom of it as the port wouldn’t discuss it with me, even though they could see I owned one of the vehicles, their contract was with the shippers blah blah – penalty charges from the port were quite painful.
That was just the start of our troubles, more on that in a while.
All duties etc. paid and delivery day arrived – typically Jay was away working, I arrived at the farm where they were going to be stored initially to find the vehicles were in a container on the back of a lorry, 1.4 meters off the floor, feels really stupid now, but that was when the penny dropped, I needed to de-elevate them somehow (shipping noob) – Hmmm – don’t panic said the driver, you’ve got 2 hours to offload, then we charge you standing time.
Brain in gear, few phone calls and I had a recovery truck on site - phew
I didn’t get chance for a proper look round, we had a space at the farm on a bit of a favour basis, they wanted the vehicles, and me, out of their way.

Easy next step, when I loaned a trailer, get my baby home Now I could have a proper look round, I knew there were issues just based on the sales pics, so I was sure there would be more, spent some time having a good poke about underneath to get a plan of attack, and that means I become a lovely place to sleep

I'll start with the interior - because I know where the pictures are ! as it was, ally chequer plate, nasty seats, nasty steering wheel, no no no spent some time at a local 4x4 sales place, measuring rear seats, found an Isuzu rodeo should work, good used from Ebay and a little adjusting later and even made it fold the other way to make the most of the storage Sorry for curse word pics, (there will be more just as bad to look forward to

Door cards, just finished pics, window winders from a MG Magnette, cupboard door handles for the push button openers with some laser cut trims, which leads me to here, a selection of laser cut parts, includes an adaptor so I could fit a (I think) MGB steering wheel and a little Willys Overland logo for the horn push the other bits are for the rear lights, which were some nasty led things and now look a little more like this You'll notice the shrunk paint, which is a shame, theres a pew places similar Forgot about the rear bumper, goodbye to the lump of rolled channel, hello to a bedford TK front bumper, reshaped and straightened

(apologies in advance to the South African contingent), ' its been South Africaned ' is something I've been saying quite alot recently, particularly when it comes to wiring, take this fine example of auto electrical goodness, take the original loom, cut a chunk out, ad in a connector from something else and of course make sure all the connections are perfect (there was tape around some of the joins) cant find the picture now, there was one wire, about 5 feet long, made up of 4 pieces of wire, all with the same twisted and taped joins. I had to re-wire it all - hey ho. while I'm moaning about fine craftsmanship, heres one that I just don't get, 6 bolts holding the front locking hub, this is exactly as they came off then we get things like this, which now look like this

Of course I was trying to get it all ready for registering, the only issue being no NOVA had appeared, message to the shippers who's reply was essentially ' a what ? ', and no offer to help in any way - oh great. I tried the cars team at HMRC, no record as far as they were concerned, eventually I worked out the shippers had brought them is as a commodity, and to make it worse, they had brought them in as if we were a VAT registered business, which meant even through the government gateway we couldnt request NOVA's. It seemed nobody could help, or even tell us how to rectify the situation, that was until I had emailed a load of different departments and one of the replies gave me a way forward. I had to apply for a post clearance amendment, for which there is a department - superb, sent them all the details I had, gave them a week or so and followed up with a call - seems they are either massively overworked or massively under staffed as they said their response time would be about 6 weeks ! So started a very slow process of them looking at the information I had, requesting more, me trying to get blood from the stones of the shipping company, re-sending, waiting 6 weeks, them requesting more info. etc. etc. The whole process took about 9 months but eventually I got notification the amendment was made, and the details were on the way to the cars team. The big worry I has was the potential fine for having no NOVA, it had been pretty much a year ! but when I spoke to the cars team, they said there wouldnt be any fine as the duty was paid - which is a little confusing as to how the fine could ever happen. Eventually we got the NOVA's, registration application in and wait for my lovely V5c. add it didnt, SGS inspection time. quick picture of it after a quick clean on inspection day

Inspection was totally painless, ex traffic cop who was very focused on what he was doing at first, photos all round, vin plate, engine and engine number, he asked about chassis stamps, I explained that very few were stamped prior to 1960 and I couldn't find any in the places where they might be, took all of 10 minutes. With that he changed into chatty cop and we spent about an hour talking about SGS and how the police used to be.
I was still a little lost for words when the brown envelope arrived, it had been what felt like a very long road, but now say hello to 301 XVB

The next thing I should say, and the silver lining, is I have learnt more about shipping and importing than I should ever need, which as you'll see is pretty handy because more are coming. People get to know, and before we knew it a Sunbeam Alpine had come over, then an Austin champ - both brought over for people we know (cant find the Alpine pics) I'm finding it a bit addictive because we bought this too 1965 moke, fairly unmolested but with an interesting engine, described by an Australian as the legendary 1100 engine. When cars were imported to South Africa a certain percentage had to be sourced locally, so they started casting their own engines. A cooper 1275 was used as the basis, then most were made around that design, this means that where the UK 1098 engine was a long stroke 998, the South African was a short stroke 1275, the Aussies love them for racing apparently. It also retains the cooper 11 stud head - plus the oil gallery was changed (never figured out why exactly) (dusty = one of the sales pictures)
