You're doing a pretty good impression of a man who's keeping all his options open! OK your preference is for the GT, got that, but I wouldn't see the MG badged version as a lesser car - in fact in the 2-door form it should be more capable in most respects.

If they are what they both appear to be I'd have been very happy with either at those hammer prices.

That MG was a comparative steal - are 1300GTs worth 2.5 times that? No way.

Classics prices do naturally settle down as show season dies.

I recall in the early 1990's, (painfully as it cost me £20K+), the first thing to collapse when recession hit was classic car prices. I think a UK recession is almost inevitable and people are exercising much more caution with their classics investments lest they get stung.

It was repeatedly advertised privately prior to being put into this auction, I believe just shy of £9K. It's decent but not concours or anywhere near.
