years ago i bought my wife an austin a35 because she said it was cute.. she drove it once and refused to drive it again - too much like hard work thinking ahead for braking points etc. nowadays she absolutely hates my 'old' car because it stinks, its ugly and its too old. she has been in it twice as a passenger in 10 years but never driven it, wont even try to. i don't understand - whats wrong with my trabant?

Simple; Get wife hooked on episodes of roadkill. Convince her that she loves old cars. Let her choose the car! That's how we ended up with our superminx.

My car(s) are not in any fit state to be driven at the moment, but when they are, I'll be chuffed to bits that my wife will absolutely refuse to drive it ;-)
My son is also 16 and I keep telling him I'll do up the 1975 BMW 1602 for him, but - he's not interested. What's the matter with him ? I think he'd prefer a Clio !!

My retro isn't all that out of the ordinary (see sig) so she doesn't mind it, she has however loved most of the cars I've had because they had individual soul or something fun to remember them by (yes even the Volvo s70, that was because we went to wilton supercar day two years ago and all the revving supercars got me into the mood to have a go when I got back to the car, fortunately for me I had a straight through exhaust and a 5 cylinder turbo... needless to say the other folks around loved it too, she was embarrassed but laughed) . She loved the Toledo I had but she was never in it when it broke but heard tales and had to help charge the battery twice which may have put her off. She tells me she likes old cars especially minis and often texts me telling me what she has spotted but isn't brave enough to own and drive a classic herself even though I've proved many a time that I'll fix it for her if it breaks and she only lives 2 miles from work so it won't be all that bad if it does.
My friends however... aren't interested in the slightest and think my car is broken simply because I chose to keep it in the garage over winter, they're happy pootling about in the cheapest of whatever comes along, a car is a car. I don't get people with mentality like that, you should really take interest in the second most expensive thing you own second to your house or third to children.

It's a sad thing that a lot of young lads (and lasses) just aren't interested in cars anymore like when I was younger, never mind classics or retro cars. BMW 1602? I would have sold body parts to have that in my teens. Actually I probably still would now.

My missus is into dogs. She loves them. She's always showing me ones on the net, or going on about how wonderful her dog is, or trying to get me to watch bloody Crufts. I have zero interest in dogs. If fact, I really dislike them.
OP, I think you trying to get your missus to choose a retro car she likes is like asking me to choose a dog I most like. I just can't.
Perhaps your missus would like a Lakeland terrier instead? I have one in mind. It sh*ts everywhere, barks uncontrollably, eats the furniture and attacks people for no discernible reason. I can deliver.
EDIT; And, just to prove my point - The wretched fleabag has just messed in my living room, after having brought in a half-dead mouse. I'm sure I feel now how my wife felt when I bought a scabby Metro on impulse.

She actually likes the Volvo, the way it looks etc. It was the driving experience that was the make or break situation. It doesn't help that she's only 4'11" so she actually can't drive some cars. I couldn't get a 740 as they don't have the seat adjustments this 940 has. Mission accomplished anyway!

My missus had no interest when we met,but ten years later i would say she has a moderate interest/tolerance of retros. She really likes the Puma which has more or less become her daily and she likes being a passenger in my Eunos too. Problem is she's scared to drive anything much bigger than the Puma so it's very limiting when buying anything that we both need to drive.

Ha !! I love this.
Get him on it. I have two lads (teenagers) and I can't get em into the workshop for love nor money (well maybe money would, but !!!). They whinge like mad, even if I just ask for a 2 min help to lift something.
They just prefer their Xbox's.

My wife helps organise The Gathering, our Instagram account, comes to (some) shows with me, looks for car stuff on wherever we're going on holiday for me to check out and runs the merch stall at the show. Also wants air ride and wheels on the daily driver, but I need to finish the Datsun first ... only sticking point is getting another car when the Datsun is finished, as we have no where to put it.
