I know it's a bit late now but my friend has a yellow Bedford cf camper for sale in Rotherham, he's been driving it for the last year or so (& went on a road trip to Wales followed by Cornwall and back towing his Honda Africa twin motorbike) I can get more photos or details? But then again if you've already put a deposit down your already invested in the other! Here's a curse word photo I ripped from Facebook,

I'd just take a chance on it. Best guess for the rough running is curse word in the carby from them running it out of petrol and sucking the bottom of the tank. Might come good after a while. When I bought my '71 Wolseley 1300 in '06 it had been sitting for some time and I just pumped the tyres up, topped up the tank, and drove it five and a half hours (about 300 miles) home in the dark. You might get away with it too. Wish you luck.

I'd give the inside of the dizzy cap a good wipe too, my old CF1 was used rather infrequently (it was a recovery truck) and used to condensate in the cap for a hobby. A quick wipe out with bogroll always cured it though.

I tried my local old factors and they had no parts, so ill be cleaning points (and wiping in cap ) and going for it. I have AA, and the insurance has breakdown too, so one way or another it'll be fine.

I have the choice of FM radio or cassette. There are no listenable fm stations and I own no cassettes. I'm also the type of driver who constantly analizes every sound LOL. Just thought, I have a battery dab radio. Ill take that

Ok, I'm sure your all dying with anticipation. Well, I'm currently at services half way up m1. Looks like it will make it but its dog slow!
Things to note so far...
Runs BAD. gearchange is vauge no oil light, fuel guage, temp gauge. It has 7 keys and seems to need them all!!!!! don't think is has any suspension damping. it has rot. I havent plucked up the courage to try overdrive. passenger mirror is useless.
but
clutch feels good brakes are good stearing is good I like it engine seems ok, but only running on 3. I'm sure its either fuel, ignition, or mechanical.

Oh, drivers seat squeeks and the noise that sounds like imminent valve train death is the gearstick rattling lol.

Glad to hear you made it back without major problems, what a trip. My dad reckoned that CF's were nicer to drive than Transits because they had rack and pinion steering.
Time for a cuppa and a sit down !

Anyone know where the indicator relay is?
Spent ages looking for the hazards untill I realised it hasnt got any!
There are switches missing and switches I don't know what they do. I think it'll take a while to unravel all the bad connectors and electical tape.
You still need the key to unlock the steering on the original ignition but there is another key for the working ignition under the dash lol.
Oh well, readers rides thread coming up.

If my old CF was anything to go by, the gearstick rattle is standard! Also took a nearly new one to Sweden in 1974, the stick rattled on that one too!
