So bullet proof that they were a very popular courier bike. Always fancied a GT550 myself but at the time they were quite desirable so prices stayed high so had to go with CX's (had standard, Custom & Eurosport)

yes I've read they are good for 150k miles. And chain parts to go wrong. Mine was actually better then i expected. When i picked it up the owner had put an additive in the fuel, I drained it and put new fuel and bought a new battery and i fired up and once it warmed up ran nice, i changed the fork seals and put new oil in, I watched a video on youtube on how to fit the seals and seating them with some waste pipe and jubilee clips. I found a washer i hadn't put back to had to do them twice Do'h! fork seals £20 oil £12 total £397

Just to echo what Compo said, these are great robust bikes. Back when I was couriering, this was the archetypal dispatch hack because they just were unkillable. The only competition came from Honda's CB350 (but only in Town), and of course the evergreen Maggot. But the GT had the advantage of looking like a mini Zed. From a distance, lol. Put on a bellypan and square bikini fairing, paint it green with Viper stripes and it'll look just like Eddie's

I had an old Z400/4 as a winter hack that was surprisingly similar. It was quite a groovy bike until you forgot about the exhaust collector in roundabouts and it levered the back wheel off the ground love that mate

indicators for Z's are expensive so I helped the Chinese economy out and purchased these i was going to remove them after the MOT but after offering them up. they add visually to the bike so they can stay to my favourite purchase a Z rear light, indicators and number plate bracket looks ace, but i either need longer shocks or a bracket to lift the rear end. Although i like the look of to being close to the tyre, i could mount the number plate off the swing arm. I'll decide as its taking shape. now on the front brakes, there a bit of curse word blocking one side rear lights £29 front indicators £9 total £475

From memory the bikes in Mad Max were picked up in Sydney then riden by the actors down to the Melbourne area for filming camping along the way, apparently they had a letter from the producer to carry explaining they were actors not a real gang for when they got stopped...
Good work, I remember seeing a GT550 with a chair on it round Sheffield

Thanks I'm thinking of having toe cutter on the bottom of the number plate. The on bike scenes of mad max where filmed by a very brave camera man on the back of the bike with a full size camera and no helmet.

Had a soft spot for the 550 ever since my dad had a spectre in the mid 90s, he repainted it black with a gold a red flame job and highlights and it was the most awesome bike young me ever saw.

I've had 3 or 4 of them now, all have had well over 50k (one had 93k!) on the clock. I paid between £100 and £300 on them, and they all did me proud for years. Cracking workhorses!
