Looking at the middle pic it looks like there is a street sign blocking the access and the last pic has what looks like an utility pole blocking the access as well. I wonder if the home owners forgot to include the costs of moving those and putting in a drop kerb when they had the build priced up?

I will get round to finishing it at some point

Maybe council refused permission for a dropped kerb making access illegal ? Maybe the tree has a preservation order on it.

Even with the telegraph poll there's still enough room to drive straight in and yes they had the drop kerb put in to,seems crazy And the trees have grown quickly they were very small a few years ago!

There is a new(ish) double garage up the road from me, exactly the same! No dropped curb, no drive, tree's in way but there is still a garage door. I'm here with a garage that isnt big enough to fit a car in, with a leaky roof and wonky/falling down wall lol *edit* Here look ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v443/JoeM/Misc/garage.jpg)

I sometimes take my son to work (Alton Towers) and go through Oakamoor where there is a bungalow on the main road that has a wall built maybe 6' infront of the garage door.

Sometimes, although it looks like a garage, truth is, its an extension but fiddles around the planning and building regs, also some houses have tiny kitchens and so the garage becomes the only place to put the white goods. Ttfn Glenn

I bought a house (on a corner plot) a few years ago where the owner had removed the garden wall at the corner of the garden to park 2 vans on the garden/hardcore, then bricked up the driveway gates to his "too small" single garage ![B-|](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/notamused.png)

as glenn says, its to circumvent planning regulations. iirc once its been there 5 years you can 'convert' it to part of the dwelling, brick up the door and fit windows, etc. you can also put an outbuilding ajacent to a boundary which they are are often funny about you doing with an extension.
either that, or its somewhere innocuous to set up your hydroponics rig...

As above additional off road parking is required with some planning applications so they build a garage with the house then after so many years they turn it into a room of the house.

How's about this for odd. Near me, 2 garage doors, blocked by a wall with a parking space in front! There's always that Mini parked there. ![](http://i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh515/AnnaGlasgow/odd%20garage_zpsllfc11nb.jpg)

To be honest, just because it has a garage door doesnt mean it would be used to store a car. Good chance its little more than a brick shed, or workshop. I doubt I would find much use for it for tinkering as it looks big enough to store a car and little else :/

we all know the old car on the drive but wont sell story, but what about the garage built on the drive and sat empty and unused???,this garage was built around five years ago around the corner from my house, the owners are not car people, their daily just sits on the drive, the garage is empty and now trees are growing in front of its only access point,id give my years wages for a garage like this!! ![](http://i514.photobucket.com/albums/t345/palacedan/retro%20rides%20stuff%20118_zpsnkwips3w.jpg) ![](http://i514.photobucket.com/albums/t345/palacedan/retro%20rides%20stuff%20119_zps5lo5jqpy.jpg) ![](http://i514.photobucket.com/albums/t345/palacedan/retro%20rides%20stuff%20120_zpsexedkv2s.jpg) Bang on their door and ask if they want to sell the garage. Also in my experience lots of garages are built to be accessed from the back, ie from the end of the garden in which they sit rather than the road in front. Charlie

They are pannelled walls designed to look like the garage doors to the right of the photo. That large green fence panel is a sliding gate so basically, it is probably a workshop downstairs, with living accomodation upstairs. The mini probably parks there to keep off the street but not block access to the actual garages.

i was gonna say preservation order too, but if they planted it themselves then there is just no logic.
if it was deliberate and they never intended to use it as a garage, then why bother having up and over doors.
looks like an ash, will be one hell of a tree when it reaches maturity, 50 - 60 foot potential
