Don't get too excited, I didn't...
What a terrible bloody show. Just overwhelmingly meh to be honest. It used to be great and show off a bit of vive le difference but any show with eight separate Subaru OCs is always gonna struggle to rock your world. It's changed massively over the last couple of years until now it's like M*x P*wer cruise nights crossed with the Chav Apocalypse. No, I'm not interested in your Honda Civic. No matter how many scene stickers you've put on it Or your mum's Yaris. It seems that even half-way cool cars are just re-hashing what's already been done, only trying to do it a bit bigger or louder than everyone else. Just horrible, and added with the four-hour tailback that has become the journey home pretty much every time I visit the Pod I can't see me being eager to waste my time on this again.
anyway, I did manage to shake of the joy-vacuum lassitude that swamped the place and point the camera at some things that seemed halfway worthwhile. Since I did, here they are.
Bigger! Louder! Brighter! MORE COLOURS! MORE LONGER GEARKNOB! This is not customisation, this is ...herd instinct
Slightly VIP 350Z was understated enough to be worth a pic
Guess this one had spent all the lucre on the paint and hydro-dipping cos everything else was bone-stock. This, also, is not customisation
Neat ICE instal in this Hahhhhnda, liked the see-through amp case so you could see all the electronics
240Z was one of few genuinely cool and interesting cars, with quality finish and a very tidy Skybus engine install
There seem to be a lot of stock put in colour-changing lights and stuff now. How long before under-body neons (OK, LEDs, then) make a comeback?
This is what the show and shine has become. As seen is every out-of-hours B&Q carpark in every sink estate town around the UK every Saturday night
Some of my favourite cars on the day weren't even strictly speaking Japanese. This wheelie-ing Escort rocked big style
Too bad this 'Vette never ran, ought to have livened things up a bit
MMmmm, suddenly I feel like buying Toyo Tires [sic]. Who says advertising doesn't work?
The Japanese Drag Series seems to have gone from being a contest to being a collection of Civics and Skylines pottering along the track. So few of them turned up that every other "race" was a bye and we were treated to the awesome and hugely entertaining spectacle of otherwise non-functioning cars bumping through the beams on the starter motor to "win" a single-car "race".
Oh, no, that isn't right, is it? It was neither awesome nor interesting...
any car you like as long as it's a Skyline....
Jesus. Losing the will to live. How about a genuinely cool little Datto with bike carbs? Thank the Lord someone's still alive out there.
Wow, a Testaros.... no, wait...
Mmmm, Oyster sauce! And possibly the most original mod I saw all day
MX-5s. There's a lot of it about.

MX-5s. There's a lot of it about
MX-5s... ahhh, you get the gist. Anyone know what make these BBS knock-offs are? Like these a lot
Subarus. There are a LOT of them about
Cool to have Transformers based on your car. Although I think personally that maybe the Transformer logo has perhaps been overdone just a teeeeeensie bit
This won the Show'n'Shine, apparently. Seemingly purely on the strength of having the largest Scooby (see what they've done there? Bet no-one's ever thought of that before) in the known universe. Which the Boy thought was excellent, but then he's eight
It wasn't unanimously hateful, however. The stilt girl was cool (although the sound system was annoying). Plenty of Rotards made it up, and it's always good to meet forum buddies you only tend to see at these sort of things. The Boy loved acting as Ada's pit crew pushing his Rex along in the queue
FDUK Fast Response Vehicle
Big Ed's FD looks as immaculate and superb as always, shame it chucked the carbon undertray out the back on the M1, much to Syed's surprise.... since he was following Ed at the time!
You know things have gone wrong when you find yourself taking pics of a mid-80s Luuuuuuuuude and thinking "wow, where have all the old/cool/subtle/interesting cars gone?"
Mini-Stig. Had to wrestle this off of him...
Nice to see Steve out and about again. They call him The HAWK da-da-da-dum-da-da-.........
Syed's triple is always worth a photo or two. Hand included for size comparison purposes
As regulars know, I always try to end on a high. Sadly, there weren't many high points to take from the day.... the only real highs came from the industrial-grade skunk fumes that are a permanent feature of the Pod. Fortunately a group of Maltese lads brought their Terminator Escort over for shakedowns, and despite the fact the allegedly weren't really trying for times, still managed to lay down 7.6 second quarters. Bloody thing's awesome, immaculate and by far the best use of an FC RX-7 Turbo II engine I've ever seen. Plus, you have to admire any car whent he turbo takes up the entire width of the engine bay. Thank God for Malta and the petrol-steeped veins that keep the Maltese's hearts beating
Stopped on the way home to take a pic of my own outside the Cathedral on Arundel hill. The doors were shut tight or I think I'd have had to go in to Confession. Bless me father for I have sinned. I inflicted the chavviest, most depressingly "scene" and incestuous inspiration vacuum on my son. I fear I may have set him back by years
Easiest "show" report I ever did. Thanks for reading, as always. Now
go away
.... and please, take me with you?
