There's already threads on RR for this show but I guess Retro-Rides can cope with another. First of all, my usual disclaimer applies: annoying camera, dodgy crops, blah blah, excuses, apology, etc. You know the drill. Secondly, I suffered for these shots. Not for the first time this year I've found myself with mildly uncomfortable leg pain. I can only blame myself really, as I do take a lot of shots from the viewpoint of an insect but it's only the day after a show that I realise that what I've actually done is spent all day doing squats. Ouch. Before we get into the photos, I'll offer my opinion on the show - I liked it a lot. I don't mind a well-finished 'stanced' car so I'm obviously at an advantage, but there's plenty of little touches that make most of these cars worth checking out. Sure, there's a formula - but when it means there's a load of slammed shiny cars I'm not complaining. It's certainly better than the Max Power cars that used to occupy the younger end of the modifying culture and (in my opinion) more interesting than a load of blue Subarus with gold wheels and some fives stuck on the side. This is only a small section of the show. It's proper busy, bro. After parking in the general parking section (where there were still some interesting rides to be seen), the first thing you'll see is the hardstanding area. Not full-on show stuff in most cases, but good enough to waste time checking out. The first thing that really caught me eye was this VIP'd Lexus: Wiv slanty rimz an' everyfink. Tasty. It's another one. Parked in front of a hedge - I'm not really a garden or topiary admirer but Goodwood has some quality hedgework. It makes you proud to be British.

Tasty 'Onda bizznizz, innit. At first, I was like, yeah - two door Jettas! By the end of the show though, I don't think I'd seen any four door examples. Weird...but still cool. I went to the Earls Court Motor Show back when there was one and saw a brand new pink 964. I was never really a supercar-poster-on-my-wall kind of child (Street Machine and BMX Action Bike were my magazines of choice), but there was definitely something special about these factory cal-lookers. A slammed one is worth extra points. That's all you're getting for tonight as it's just gone midnight and my car has turned into a pumpkin. More tomorrow. Probably.

Hang on a second... Two door Jettas? Is this a body style available outside the UK, something that's been fabricated from two door Golf panels, or have I just been blind and not noticed them before?

Two-door Jettas were relatively common in other markets, but never available in the UK. A few years ago, you'd see quite a few Jettas at shows and a two-door version would be a rarity. If Players was anything to go by, the 'budget' Jetta boys have seemingly either moved on to something else or upgraded to the ultimate - a two-door car. That's my theory anyway. Back to the pics: Nice Beemer - you'll see it again later, don't worry. Now look in the background...I get annoyed when I have to carry a tripod around, imagine having that crane/arm/contraption to shuffle about. This was the most extreme example, but the camera game is high-end at Players...it's DSLR central, it makes you wonder how Jessops went out of business. This nine-twelve is up there in my personal top five for the show - probably in the number two spot, even though it's red.

This Escort is special. Lovely brown Escort. Legend. Tree! (and a banded Fiat Mirafiori steel) Apologies to tree fans, just as I was taking this photo a Talbot Chrysler jumped into the frame. Silly Talbot Chrysler.

What with Emiel's incredible car originating from the MIVW camp (here he is being mentioned 10 year's ago : retrorides.proboards.com/thread/4245/euro-mkiii-golfs-bitte )

1. I didn't realise he (Tom, the brown Escort owner) was only 19. I doff my proverbial hat. 2. I was referring to Emiel's car being legendary, because it is. Want some more piccies? Alrighty then. On a normal day, this might be the best Mercedes at a show. Imp perfection. If you don't like 8 series BMWs, you're wrong. Look in that arch at the bolts holding the wing on, and look at the beam sitting amongst blades of grass. That's a very clean Bug.

Even if you're not really into stancey-camber-JDM-shenanigans, you've got to be able to appreciate how this car has got it all just right. The shiny wheel edges just finish it all off. Split-window patina win. Clean and simple. That number plate is legit too. Pan-swapped 100E is very cool.

That 75. Now with added Tea livery. This Datsun is turning out really well. Nice work! Lovely Bugeye Starlet on Advans. Please don't let it have a Ford motor under the bonnet. Hello old friend. Looking good on the banded steels and with some time well-spent polishing the old girl up.
