I have just signed up to say how much I like this car.
Gosh ,thank you bill , steady on now
well , had an interesting phone call the other day .
i lifted the receiver to my ear ,and heard a very american new york accent ask , "is that that beeping mother beeping limey son of a beep ?
slightly taken aback, i replied , i am sorry , may i ask who is calling ?
ITS MADONNA !!!! she shreiked .... madona ? i verified ...no you sumbeep , MADONNA , capitals , with two N's !!
how may i be of assistance miss , i asked (percieving that the "full jeeves" would irritate her the most )
YOU SACK OF BEEP YOU STOLE MY DESIGN !!
might you assist me madam in explaining the gist of your grievance ?
THAT BEEPING TRUCK LOAD OF BEEP YOU CALL A MOTHER BEEPING CAR ,YOU STOLE MY BRA DESIGN ,YOU COPIED ME , I AM GOING TO SUE YOUR BEEP TILL YOU ARE SO FAR IN A HOLE YOU HAVE TO USE A LADDER TO SCRATCH YOUR BEEP ! ...!
she frothed on for a few more minutes, while i picked my nails nonchalantly ,and used my thumb and forefinger to frame a charming goldfinch singing in the tree adjacent my window ..
once her spluttering had ceased , i offered her some advice ,
madam , may i point out that at no time during your "perfomances" have you worn a rivetted aluminium braziere similar in design to the car in question , your particular assemblies being more conical and ,quite frankly, ludicrous in the extreme .
however , i shall pass on your message to the master of the house , and await his reaction with great anticipation , he has not had a good laugh since he saw your first video suggesting your similarity to a virgin .
at this point her volume became so high ,and her speech so garbled i decided to terminate the conversation .
having recovered from my transatlantic critique , i surged ahead with a fit of max HG Wells Time Machine/MartyDoc twinklinessnosity !
i made a couple of templates ..
trying different positions for the gauges etc , in the end i moved the rhs dig down a few mm, cos i liked it more ..
then set to, cutting them out of an old door finger plate ..
used the thin disc on both sides then a hacksaw blade by hand ,then spent a fair while filing them to fit ..
then i had to solve the problem of how to use a wood screw(to match the rest of the dash brasswork) for the little brass L shaped brackets i made , in the end i cut this wiring plastic dufah into bits and drilled a hole in the bit i wanted ..
this worked well..
then i peeled off the blue paper ,and using a cordless screwdriver ,and a small rubber arbor i free hand attempted to make a turned pattern to match the clock parts of the dash .
and the final assembly looked like this ..
something that ocured to me was it might be a little difficult to read the speedo , so i cast around looking for a magnifying glass to suit ,then i remembered i have a few projector head lights , so took the lens off one of those ..
then ground a flat on it ..
and it sits like this ..
i have yet to devise a way to hold it so i can take it off easily, to press the buttons on the speedo , and i am not sure if its too much embellishment ... it does work well though !
tomorrow i am back to my ongoing rivnut catastrophe , which ,on monday , saw me drilling and grinding 3 separate attempt to rivnut the cowl holes with a makeshift tool instead of the proper one ... in the end i gave up and lacerated my hands under the dash , nylock nutting them all ..
i am convinced the bloke who designed rivnuts also designed the M25.
Robert I have followed your build for a bit now with great interest I too have been looking to build something like this and had been looking for a cheap 4x4 chassis to do it with as budget Is very limited. However when I saw yours on a taxi and I thought that was a genius idea. So sorry to say I have decided to rip off your idea myself and have already secured a taxi chassis and hope to start soon so just thought I would say excellent build sir and hope you don't mind me borrowing your taxi idea lol
made a bit of an experiment in edging today ,hoicked out my 5 quid coil of underfloor heating pipe..
and made edging for the body ,and painted it silver ..
not sure of it ,and how to make the ends blend in , so may make a copper set to compare as well , the paint is a bit too grey but it's all i could find in witney this afternoon ... i will see how it looks in the morning !
