When the function of a buslane is weighed as having a higher priority than the safety and lives of people, then there is something very wrong with the bureaucratic society we live in!

It makes you wonder what the blue lights and sirens are actually for, if your not allowed to make room for them to pass?

Its all about risk/reward though isn't it. You pulling out of the way for them will save all of about 10 seconds maximum. If you however move out of the way for the greater good through a red light, or into a bus lane and something hits you, that puts even more strain on the drivers as you will a) block them even more and b) another ambulance, or even that one, will have to be called out to deal with you. As said, Emergency service drivers are trained to put themselves into risky positions, your average road user is not.

Curtis, emergency vehicle drivers are not trained to put themselves into risky positions they are trained to drive in a safe manner whilst making progress and how to avoid putting themselves or other road users at risk of causing an incident.
Training is about keeping yourself and others safe and getting to your destination safely.

They adverts on TV have always said that they will make their way through traffic, just make it easier for them if you can.
The problem these days is that the average driver, hasn't got a clue about what they should be doing on the road. The test is now going to ask you to use a sat nav, rather than read road signs etc. So what do we expect?
The Government also seem to fine the motorist for anything and everything today. As many folks have said, if you want to, risk using the bus lane and get the fine, but the emergency services probably won't get there any quicker add to that they usually send two or three vehicle out in towns and cities anyway!
Morally, I'd make them make their way through the traffic. Only move over when safe to do so!
