Big drop on the update! love to see great progress and no matter how many snags an engine in is an engine in!!
offset and 35 profile will solve the rubbing,Id stick with hydraulic clutch because it will be easier to fit the pedal box.....
Great work keep it up!!!

Thanks mate Engine is certainly in, well the mucky spare one anyway. I want to run vw bbs ra's on it, hence the 100x4 redrill. Just so happens a mate has some et35 15" ones he might be selling. I have got both the cable and hydralic versions of the box, got the actual cable too. If I keep it hydralic I want to use a modern master which might not be too hard but might just go cable! Should just be a case of welding an extension on the top of the pedal? Want to keep all the standard pedals like have managed to keep the stock steering rack and column.

Sorry metro was sold in January.
I'm hoping it will be cool, will have to see what I can do to cover the front of the subframe without it looking too odd.
There is someone building a Corvette c4 with an Allegro body that might be ever so slightly cooler, but it's not an Allegro!

Would a Dolomite Sprint front spoiler fit perhaps, it would could almost be a proper ST one then ?
I'm guessing the MGF engine mount wasn't intended for use with steered wheels. If the Metro one will fix it it would allow some wider wheels on it if needed and might help the steering a bit.

Might do, luckily it has black plastic sill covers so can follow on from that. Looking at mk2 golf front splitter can be trimmed down.
Metro engine arm is an option but the mount is only meant for 1.4 so not as strong, people do use them with more power though. Hopefully more offset and smaller tyres will help, might go down to 14" rather than my planned 15" going to play some more next weekend before I order some wheels.

would the engine tilt back more? or is it pretty much set in stone by the subframe and mount brackets you are using ?
couldnt help with handling too, gets a bit of the weight behind the imaginary front axle line

Allegros were always cool. Perhaps I'm biased since both lots of grandparents were serial BMC owners (including two Allegros and four other FWD cars), I had my first car driving lesson in Pop's Allegro 1500 when I was about 12, and I've had seven FWD BMC cars myself including an Allegro.

Thanks all With the engine sitting on factory mounts in a factory ish subframe I'm hoping it will give the best chance of no problems. It would be possible to tilt it as I have to remake the rear engine mount anyway. Gonna try and keep the factory angle though. Wheels ordered today!

Well I have been pretty Ill since just before this weekend, went out and looked at the car for about 20min. Decided there is far too much work than I could ever do and got a bit down about it. So I went back to bed and did some retail therapy, now I'm both Ill and broke but have some bits on the way that are probably worth more than an Allegro each! Obp pedal box from a Nova, can be made to fit I think. Type B Torsen diff arrived today, getting stored safely under my bed until needed. And my wheels turned up from Austria! Just waiting for the centers and need to get a tyre on one but clearance looks good. Shame I'm now out of cash untill after xmas now, kids will see to that! I did manage to order a polybush for the rear engine mount though, that is getting modded shorty to counter the fact the bracket was welded onto the frame 20mm out doh.

Go on Ed you can't give up on this! Your one of the few things giving me hope I'll get the pile of scrap that was once an Allegro in my garage roadworthy again! I'm sure it will be worth it.

I'm far too invested to give up any time soon, 90% of the parts are bought only really major purchase still to come will be the cage and that can be built up over time. I'm going to mock it all up in card tube before ordering cds tube. There is just a hell of a lot of work to do! Have got an idea to make a sort of double front strut brace that will link onto the struts on the subframe as well as the original turrets, they will get some nice plates bolted over them too.
Been messing in the shed this afternoon putting primer on a few bits and pushed the rubber bushes out of new wishbones ready for poly bushes.

Thanks for the kind feedback Trying to make the thread easy to follow, another year and maybe it'll see a road. I'm only one man with a driveway, a tent and fairly basic tools. I have seen some amazing builds happen in pretty short time by people who work as car builders or mechanics. Not me, I work in IT 9-5 and this is purely a weekend hobby and learning excerise. It'll slow down a bit over winter but my planed timescale aim back way in Feb was to have an engine bolted in by the end of summer, so far job done Hopefully it will be running by the middle of next summer with most problems solved. I really do love the builds you see with perfect paintwork and 100% new parts. This is going to be partly that but I want to be able to drive it without worrying about a stonechip here or there. I have got much of the boot back to bare metal today, all sprayed up in primer for now. Have welded some mgf rear anti roll bar mounts to the bottom of the car and cut into the nice finished lower subframe mounts to clear the roll bar. Pics will have to wait until next week as it goes dark far too quicly now!
