Mazda bongo, 1995 so fairly retro now, will all sorts of little gidgets to enjoy and annoy, electric roof too. about the size of a large car, unconverted can still be used as a camper as the seats fold flat to make a bed, so chuck a stove in the back and away you go. good support in the UK these days with a dedicated owners club and a number of parts suppliers. comes in 2.5d 2.0d and 2.5 petrol (a V6). only real issue is a habit to blow a head if overheated. Yeah the drop down bed is still a proper sized double bed so you'll fit in it fine, it's just the rear bed makes up into a massive double thats big enough for 3 adults... not that we have 3 adults in the bed at the same time. Quick edit to add a bed picture: Cheers! :-D

He'd definitely class the Bongo as too modern, and as much as I'd like the Hymer, I think he might be reticent. Some good suggestions, though!

Some days you just need to take a grinder to an inanimate object, just to make your day a tiny bit better!!

A Starcraft would be epic! But they seem to be very few and far between.

They are not very expensive when they swap hands on ebay and if he has the time to wait one will pop up. I've bidded on a couple over the last year as I think there pretty cool although I wanted to seal the side door and fit split rear doors in the back for a van like access.

BUMP-A-RAMA! Looks like he might have found a C-reg Trafic to play with. He's going to have a proper look over it at the weekend.

We've just had a 1971 Bedford CF by Dormobile dropped off with us for full restoration.
Needs a hell of a lot of work, but is a pretty cool thing.

Seem to remember there being pop top, mini based campers being made, Google search for classic mini camper only seems to bring up coachbuilt campers based on minis. c1.staticflickr.com/5/4012/4388422690_d1ebb079a2.jpgCalled, wildgoose ? If want to keep small, how about one of the Honda acty based ones? Either a coachbuilt or,if you could find it, a demountable? Ttfn Glenn

This my '92 Hymer B534, it's not a VW, but it is German and has excellent build quality. Were you near Bamburgh last week? *n
