Hi Guys,
I have a rear access to my property, and I am thinking to install a roller gate as a secure gate and entry. It more a "comfit" factor than security and it saves space inside the property using a roller door too along with the auto open kit on it. I got the double garage door already, so just need to consider how to mount it. So my next concern is fitting it, I want to make a up a cheap solid frame to mount it on, any ideas on what sort of self supporting frame and cost effective frame to install. (I will need top and side supports)
I will update with photos when I do the job.

A friend of mine has something like this at the bottom of his garden, he made a kind of garage looking brick and timber affair to mount it in

Scaffolding would be my choice. I use KeeKlamps for loads of project and they are far neater than scaffolding fittings. Saddle clamps would allow timber battens to be attached that the door frame / mechanism can be fitted. I cut off the flange of plastic end plugs then drill a hole through the scaffolding at what would be 6-12" above the ground then push the plug up to the drill bit still in situ. Then I simply use builders foam to backfill the end to the plug. That way when concreted into the ground any moisture that accumulates in the poles drains though the holes drilled and can't go any lower to ultimately cause the pole to rot through.

So my existing wooden 200mm x 200mm gate posts (installed 5 yrs ago) fell over at ground level...took ages to dig out the concrete. Them sourced 2x Armco, good on strength and should be durable too. 2.7mtrs out of the ground, and the garage door ends will bolt flush on the top and bolt directly onto the Armco. Took ages to unwind the door off the auto gear, as it seems to have a lock on the Somfy motor and wont turn without power.(This door has no manual wind gear) Without the door on the auto gear, I hope it will be easier to manhandle into place by myself. List to self, Install door and gear, Timber frame the Armco, Install waterproof control panel. Install power to gate. Hope it all works..... More updates later....

Ta Da..... It works, controller needs replacing but works.
Still to sheath the armco and top sections in timber, but for looks only.

The 40Tons of road chippings will finish off the drive and turnaround area nicely....if it ever arrives? (road chipping on the cheap, arrive when they have a job close by, but you have to wait until they are working close)

Had a few problems today....door had frozen solid. Took a quick knock to the door to break the ice locking the panels to the runners...but the only problem so far.

That's a very nice solution, reading from the top I thought Armco was a bit of an odd solution but its given you something very strong and lost barely any width.
