Thought I'd update mine. Rudge: I have finally got to ride this fast. Using the tuesday evening session at Castle Coombe Circuit I have achieved 32mph on the flat! On the roads I dare not ride fast as the brake is terrible! Since this pic was taken I replaced the modern brake lever with a period one. Looks much better. Truimph Not much bar a lot of use. Has had a service, new tyres and a headlamp fitted. The lamp shell is a cheap dynamo type bought off of ebay, guts removed and replaced with the guts of a Topeak LED light. Looks the part and is brighter. Dolan Not retro I know, but the latest addition to the fleet. Converted from a track bike into time trial format. Great and fast!

I love Single Speeds. This is my 'town bike' Purchased via Gumtree, the forks were seized, the seatpost jammed, the bottom bracket beyond help and both wheels bent. Mostly I used whatever I had available to build it up, the chain is made of spare pieces, the front wheel was free, the seat has a lot of crash damage and the rear wheel part of a set I bought for other use. The frame is a Reynolds 531 Falcon, but pretty much everything else is random. Far less seriously, this is my 'Tweed Ride' bike. The frame is an modern alloy track frame, the forks are Guerciotti carbon ones. I was going for a WW2 fighter 'look', but I think it came out more hot-rod style.....

Brilliant bikes and great attention to detail. I love the multi-colored chain, totally off the wall!

i've shaved my beard off so technically i'm not a hipster. this is mine, 1980 carlton racer tip save. (FOC) I can only find this over edited photo of how i got it. forks where bent (not kinked) a tad, i just bent them back with a piece if timber. i used the original front cog/spindle and peddles as they are in good condition and spin freely and well, plus it was a budget build i then got some cheap steel wheels, there heavier but i don't mind that, make you work harder. got some classic style drop down bars with cable recesses. its fixed gear so i don't run brakes, i like the clean look and zero maintenance. It also works your legs harder, there your gears and brake and you have to plan ahead. Only had to do one quick stop when i was following a BM and he stopped sharp to let a car out (i know a BMW actually letting a car out) i managed to stop into but his eye were massive in the wing mirror. bought a nice comfy seat. And added a cheap eBay rear light for when its dull. done over 100 miles (not in one ride) and i'm used to it, I went to pull my shorts out my and forgot it was fixed and stopped peddling and nearly went over the handle bars. i do a bit of light off roading too haha

You ride it like this? Fixed with no brakes and no pedal retention? How on earth do you stop? Thats incredibly dangerous. Using your legs to brake is only half as good if you've got no pedal retention.

sold this a little while ago, done lots of single speeds and fixed bikes but this one was one of the nicest, just a shame it was too small to keep. How was it too small? You've got an inline seatpost on it and its not up too high. Also you're running it with flat bars so you'd need a longer stem to compensate the shortening of the cockpit (as it would've been made for drops). If this was your setup then it looks about ok. Maybe a layback seatpost and longer stem (or putting drops back on) but otherwise about right.

The cycle paths around here are wide and relatively quiet, I also use it on the road, so maybe i should look at getting retention, I find riding it like this makes me ride extremely focused and always planning far ahead. If a car pulls right out on me, i wouldn't be able to stop in time with brakes, if i haven't got time so swerve.

My fixie is an old Raleigh. 531 frame, cool old paintjob, which is why I've not done anything with it. I couldn't ride it brakeless though... Id's a nice ride, and it's really practical, but it's not as fancy as the other bikes in this thread. Fixie by duncancmartin, on Flickr

I'm 6'2 so it was way too small. the seat post unfortunately was cut down so wouldnt go any higher. i didnt build it for me though, i do loads of bikes, buy what ever comes along and just work with what i have. that one just happened to be one of the nicer ones. its all about proportions with bikes like these and that bike had that sorted.

My Peugeot isn't a single speed, but I figured I'd post it here anyway! It's a lot shinier and nicer than the Raleigh, and it's 653, so the next rung up the tubing ladder, but it's also too low for me now (it fitted me when I got it almost 20 years ago!). The chrome has a lot of imperfections in it, but it polishes up nice, and rides well. Peugeot bike finished by duncancmartin, on Flickr

If you are riding brakeless at least get some clips. Or just be sensible and get a front brake(and clips) Riding fixed without clips just isn't clever. I personally wouldn't trust a fork i've bent back too, i've had a set snap before and its not fun.
