...bare metal respray Looking awesome, did you do the respray yourself and if so how much of a pain in the backside was it?? Did you treat the steel with anything or was it not rusty in the first place?? I have a steel BMX frame that I'm currently (very slowly) renovating and I need to do something about the rust on the frame from where the previous paint job got scratched...

Ive not done much with bikes if I'm honest but could somebody explain what is involved in converting to single speed? I'm currently nursing a dodgy hamstring and once its better id like one of these to get fitter.

I't surprisingly easy. The hardest bit is getting chain line right. This is just careful measurement and adjustment. Depending on the drop out type you may need a tensioner, but these are freely available.
The basic process is to work out the required gearing, set the front chain ring up, Insert the rear wheel, work out the chainline and adjust the sprocket or spacers. Add chain, tension and that's it!
Pitfalls are, freewheel clearance. Some frames will struggle for freewheel clearance, especially the older (40's, 50's frames) frames and spacing the rear wheel.

i can do you a conversion if youre anywhere near brighton.
i personally havnt had any issues with chainlines but then my approach is different to the one above.
i tend to use the original wheels rather than use new ones or cassette freewheel hubs.
with older wheels you just need to get the cassette off - screw on a bmx freewheel, essentially flip the axe spacers over to the other side and re-dish the wheel. take off all the gear parts and other useless curse word too.
alternatively if you just want to try it out, take the derailleur off and cut the chain down. then you can experiment with gear ratios and it wont cost any thing. shouldnt take longer than 20mins either

Ive got a white peugeout premium, that I'm gonna do the same! Just trying to carefully choose the bits on a budget! How many different sizes sis the peugeout come I'm, as I'm sure the largest frames will look silly! What front sprocket are people using?!
Cheers Charlie.

Sorry people, but I'm lost here, while I'm all for doing what you enjoy the way you like it, can someone explain the advantage over a geared bike?

Sorry people, but I'm lost here, while I'm all for doing what you enjoy the way you like it, can someone explain the advantage over a geared bike? Simplicity, low maintenance, clean looks, fashion, training, style. That's not to say one is better than another, but it's nice to have a choice.
