Took my AE50 for it's MoT last week as the weather was finally showing some promise. Passed the MoT without any comments, but the man doing the test told me my crank bearings were gone. He said they'd probably gone as it had been sitting for a few years without running. The engines are Morini based so a bearing kit was easy enough to find.
I'd never done crank bearings before so it took a while, but not too difficult, while it was apart I noticed there was an aftermarket piston in the wrong way around. Now it's back together, no crank bearing noises, but I can now hear what I think is the small end rattling! I'm sure I checked the top & bottom end play when I had it apart and both were ok, strangely, it sounds like the engine in ckerr's video so maybe it's normal...
Ordered a new bearing from Simplybearings for not a lot of money so will fit that when it comes in a couple of days.
