Right, I said to myself I wouldn't do a thread for this untill it started to get interesting. I've had it since January and its only really just got interesting. If you don't want to know 'because it's modern', close the thread, read someone else's, and see if this one falls off the bottom and dies. That's fine with me. The reason for me starting this thread is because this is such an oddball car there is less of these on the road than Citroen BXs. So go whine on someone else's thread, k? I've also, as stated, started to make it interesting. Its not standard. This is not me bandying about my brand new stock untouched daily. 'Rant' over Ok. So i'd been thinking about one of these for a few years now, and the prices are really hitting rock bottom. Eventually I took the plunge, buying this 43000, full service history example from a Hyundai main dealer with change from £800. They have even put me on the Hyundai UK owners register. How lovely. So what is it. It's a third generation Hyundai XG Grandeur. Its a sea of plastic wood, leather and gizmos. It has digital auto climate. It has cruise control. It has memory seats. It has frameless doors. More importantly it has a 3 litre 24V SIGMA V6. It lived up to its expectations- big, a bit lazy and overall, effortless. But it was also stock. Which is a bit boring. So Cue some cheap wheels, an angle grinder, a Loden LED boot badge, and a slash cut tailpipe. It didn't all happen in a weekend, but the bulk of it (lowering) was done with thanks to Area:52, standard Anyway. Enough waffle. Ah, I was waiting for the finished pic's Looks so much better now, how's the ride? Touch firmer. Back end was a little more skittish, that was, until I remembered I had 40PSI in the rear tires still from a 4-up camping trip in April

Re: wheels, do you really need to ask? it's 5x4.5" I'm sticking with what I have for now only on the basis they cost me £73 and lacquer peel aside they are in excellent condition. I'm going to repaint them soon anyway. The black bits make them look weirdly 2 dimensional maybe something will come up for the right money but for now these will do

Finding them in colours that are not silver is a little difficult though.

Basically a Mitsubishi Diamante in different clothes judging by under the bonnet. Nope. First 2 models are Mitsubishi based, the third gen only uses a few dribs and drabs of Mitsubishi parts. Mostly Hyundai engineered.

I must be one of the few around that has driven one of these, a mate of mine bought one for a banger rally to Barcelona, was one of the comfiest cars I've ever driven, had a decent turn of speed, all the toys (and all working) and cornered like an American cop car in a film, all body roll and tyre squeal, proper comedy! He even got an average of 28mpg with a combination of belting down the French and Spanish motorways at highly illegal speeds and hooning it down the back roads, my 1.8 190E wouldn't do that. Not bad for £450 with a years test, 6 months tax and FSH, even if it did have 202k on it.

The absolute opposite of what I usually look for in a car... yet I really like it. I think it's the doors and the yellow fogs. I'm very easily led.
Bloke round the corner has one, of course it's in silver...

Oh this is all sorts of win. Frameless doors? More win! Love it. Maybe some mega shiny wire spoked wheels? In gold?

ive taken a shine to these now. a few just over 1000 on eBay, tempting for what you get If your serious, bide your time. They come up cheap with low miles, one I was looking at with 70k went from £895 to £650 in a few weeks. Easy to pick up one cheap. Oh this is all sorts of win. Frameless doors? More win! Love it. Maybe some mega shiny wire spoked wheels? In gold? I wish. Budget says just keep putting black-and-rounds on the 17"s and let it munch miles. one day, maybe, I'll bag it or some curse word. Who knows

All it needs now is another tail pipe, something about that rear end is crying out for duel pipes...
