okay, this is how it has been for many years. It came from an old ex Jaguar dealership I worked at, they were being thrown out, I grabbed 2 the other needed a service with lots of freeplay in the pump action, so was given away. This one works perfectly. a good clean, several sheets of emery cloth and 2 tins of Hammerite later. Unfortunately no pictures in between just almost finished. Bearings cleaned and wheels ready to refit. Nice bright yellow perfect for a workshop. The original sticker was beyond saving but fortunately under this panel was another identical sticker on the cylinder in much better condition so it was carefully peeled off and glued to the outer panel Almost finished just a few areas to touch up, and just noticed the ends of the front axles should be white. Will update when finished, cheers

Nice job, I have the smaller version in the queue for repair. That should last forever, you now need to buy something heavy to lift with it.

It will come in handy even if you never use it

Thanks, cant help with regards Epco Dunlop production, just says made in England on the label. What year and tonnage is your Dunlop? Hope this will inspire some more cleaned and painted jacks.
8bitash, that thing looks heavy, do you have the cup?

I thought it was drop & wheels If you have the space and need for a jack this size - why not? Doesn't look like it'll be expensive. Cheers, Jan

Took a trip to Lake Constance today... And since I'm posting this to this thread, you know what I did there. Jepp, you guessed it. I brought home number twelve... Don't know what I'm going to do with this one, I've got so many that need work & attention But it was too cheap to let it go... This was actually offered to me as response for an for-sale advert I posted online. So instead of getting rid of one, I bought another Cheers, Jan

Take a complete one that needs the least work, get it finished, good clean with minimal dismantling and a coat of paint, one or two days work at the most. Trouble is I was meant to be cleaning mine up for sale to make space in the garage, it looks so good now I am never going to sell it, so there is the danger a restored jack could fuel your habit even more.

I don't think it's possible for Jan's habit to get any more fuelled!

Haha, I'm already looking for more. Sadly I just missed out on a mechanical pre-war jack. That would be the icing on the cake for my collection. I keep looking... I'm fuelled to the brim! I even had a little clear out to make room for more Steinbocks. Cheers, Jan

Finally got the Dunlop finished, nipples greased, wheels oiled and last few bits painted. Brightened up my garage no end. Now this thread needs a restored Steinbock

Found this behind a building at work. 6 tonne. Going to see if I can have it. Do you think it's worth having? I think judging by the font on the sticker its an Epco, bigger version of the K40 Well worth repairing, the first time you use it you will be glad you did. Very handy due to the long reach if lifting a 4x4 or van, might not fit under some cars If its free get it even if you give it away so some one else can use it

Sooo - I have a little little addition to the herd. It's not a Steinbock, but it's pretty old as well. And it isn't even a trolley jack. It's a little mechanical bottle jack. There were a few situations in which I wished I had a bottle jack. Now I have a bottle jack. I was given this by my employer who found it in a shed he'd just bought. Nice! It is made by BLITZ. Blitz was founded in 1872, as a repair company for machines. They soon started production of jacks, air compressors and other garage equipment, mainly hydraulic & pneumatic tools and jacks. And - they are still in business, doing the same thing. I think most of the axle jacks used on 4-pillar lifts & pits in germany are made by Blitz. The axle jack on the 4-pillar lift at work is also made by Blitz, dating to 1972. And still working like a charm. I'm not sure, but they may be one of the oldest garage equipment manufacturers still in existence (if merged with other brands under a mother-comapny, like it is usual today). Anyway, back to the jack: What I like about this; the lifting spindle is fixed, turning the input shaft, you rotate a collar that pushes out the main spindle, which is held in place with a pin (green arrow shows the cut out in the thread used to prevent rotation): Pretty nice little jack that. No clue about it's age, but slotted screws indicate it's pretty old. The handle is missing, sadly. Looks like it had a reteining ball, there's a notch in the square. Lifting capacity is 1200kg. That's all. Cheers, Jan
