So at the tail end of last year, i kept looking at Sjs for sale since i had wanted one for a good few years, even before i had my license for some offroad fun. I had the money so decided to go for it!
I ended up with a B reg 85/86 plate 410 that had been converted into a pick up and already had 3" lift springs and an 'add-a-leaf' kit along with procomp shocks and a good set of tyres.
When i got it, it looked like so....
Soon as i got it, i was dead excited to go out offroading, so off i went to Drumclog (near glasgow) for the day, was doing well(As SJs do) going everywhere any landrover could, until I drove into a hole that was deeper than expected, i got stuck and had water up to my ankles....
After i got pulled out, and the sj stopped misfiring, i called it a day, got home, changed the oil, and that was it, sj was blowing smoke like mad, so it was the end of that engine, so after lazing about with the time i had when I'm onshore, and then giving up and letting a pal weld in the engine mounts to save me borrowing a welder, he ended up putting the engine in too while i was away. a 1600 8v from a vitara, i also managed to pick up a twin choke weber along with a manifold for a great price on the bay.
So that's it finally all running perfectly, minus the fact I need to replace the sump gasket, and the rear diff seals. Sorted!
On saturday night, I had already decided on the respray it was getting, so set about that until the early hours of the morning after prep etc.
And she now looks like.....
Since taking those photos, the bull bar is back on with the Hellas attached to it, the rear bumper has been resprayed, just the front one still to paint along with the interior of the cab and the truck bed.
Next on the list of plans are, fit the spring over axle kit i have sitting in the garage for another 5-6" of lift, and get a set of 15x10 steel wheels with 33" tyres and some 60mm spacers and wider arches
Cheers for having a read, and i'll try keep this updated as much as i can
