Taught myself to paint mate as got fed up with taking it to so called pros and getting a poor job done still full of sanding marks and blemishes ,and also paying silly money for it too
What I've learnt is prep work is key to a good job ,regardless of painters talent , if the foundation is poor then what's put on top of it will be curse word !!
Make sure its prepped well as base and clear coat will highlight any pants repairs and magnify it !!
Base it up slowly and evenly with at least a good few coats
Also make sure your paint is mixed correctly with hardeners and thinners
Usually 2:1 ratio and 10% thinners but this can vary
With basecoats and lacquers and also your painting equipment
Eventually you'll get the hang and feel of it just make sure your painting area is nice and clean ,also helps if floor is wet around the car when painting as helps stop ya kicking dust up o to car
As with lacquer patients is the best way too put it on too heavy and it will run, sag and look like curtains hahah
Not enough and you'll have a dry finish that has a texture of sand
Do t try and lacquer it all in first coat as will run.... give it a gentle first coat which will leave it dry finished like described above
Then after 20 mins flashing time which carts on room temp
Give it a first "wet coat "
Basically we're its a nice heavy coat without runs and no dry spots
Will then need a cpl more coats before its sealed and ready to flat and polish
Plenty of guides on YouTube you can watch to help but best to dive in and learn by your mistakes mate like I did
Give it a go what's worst can happen ??
Least it will be all same colour eh !!
