mk2 raleigh chopper I believe, serviced a couple of mk3's last year.
look under the bottom bracket shell in good light, you should find a stamped frame number.
edit, looks like a mk3 with a mk2 frame and crankset.

It's got the mk3 gear change so looks like the best of both worlds. I've got a mk3 but wish I had the mk2 saddle for it.
Not sure if it's a straight swap though and never looked into it.

it's a cheapo re-pop chopper, not made by Raleigh
steel frame, not alloy like the mk3 Raleigh chopper
seat frame fits a mk1 chopper, wheels fit, not a great deal else does

Cheers for the comments chaps - I think Kev seems to be closest to the mark, I can't find any evidence of it being a Raleigh. I would say it seems to be a bit of a mash of parts to be honest. Further investigation required me thinks! I'm pretty chuffed with it, do you think I've still got a good buy?

Kev is the closest.
I believe its called a Ground Cruiser (I think that's the name), its a Chinese thing made around the time of the MK3 Chopper to cash in on the resurgence of interest.
In my opinion they are a whole lot more true to the original MK1 and 2 Choppers than the Mk3 ever was, much better proportions, a proper seat and very high handlebars.
Of course Raleigh buffs will want to see you hung for even referring to it as one of their beloved Choppers but to me its an interesting bike that should be appreciated for what it is.
Anyway, I've got one so I would appreciate them I suppose, I got it given in dreadful condition compared to yours not knowing what it was. I modified and restored it when I had my bike phase a few years ago.

Thanks Chris, you are absolutely spot on, it does indeed have 'Ground Cruiser' stamped on a bracket on the back. I'd have to agree that it's a much nicer bike than a mk3 Chopper, with its proper saddle and handlebars. Looking forward to tarting it up a bit and using it this Summer - I got my girlfriend an old Raleigh Shopper at Christmas so we can ride together on these  |

I'm pretty chuffed with it, do you think I've still got a good buy? yep, prefer it to my mk3 chopper, especially since the frame snapped where the sissy bars slotted into the frame. |

Love yours by the way Chris, that looks sweet! Have you modified that with any other parts as it looks a little different to mine? Yes, I don't have a pic of before but it was severely knackered, pretty much chrome free and lots of bits missing.
I fitted old style Raleigh brakes (same as Chopper or Grifter etc), levers too, same for pedals. White cables made up to suit. Tyres and handle grips I think are just Raleigh chopper just bought from ebay. I changed the gear change parts at the back for Chopper Grifter style bits as bits of the original were missing. The centre console and chain guard I made from stainless, the paint is green flake, and for the mudguards lighter green flake due to no chrome left. It looks nice and sparkly in the sun.
For me the only bit they did a bad job of was the single top tube and the horrible end of the twin tubes just hacked off at the seat post, that's why I thought it needed a console, similar to a Tomahawk.
Whatever you do just don't put Chopper stickers on, because then its trying to be something it isn't, I put Raleigh parts on just because I like the older style but I'm not pretending its anything it isn't.

Hahaha that's a great idea! Fear not, it won't become a tacky pretend Chopper. I like the idea of fitting old Raleigh brakes and gear change, the really modern looking brake levers and twist-shift grips let it down in my opinion. Still looking for more inspiration as to what to do with it really. The paint is in great nick so it would be a shame to paint it at this point. All i've done so far is pump the tyres up and removed the bell, today I'm going to set about restoring the chrome. Watch this space!

You could put the translation for Chopper in Chinese symbols on it. I didn't think of that, I called mine Chop-Suey, if you look closely it is cut into the stainless on top of the console, the pics aren't good.
Chopper in Chinese would be a great idea, maybe in the style of the original chopper sticker.

I just found this pic taken at Billing at the Raleigh event on the same weekend as the NSRA fun run in 2009, a couple of really nice Ground Cruisers.
and a one of the name on mine. 
What is that thing under the top tube on these and yours Batman, a tool bag or something? Mine didn't have it. |

Yeah it's a mini tool kit, I didn't think it was original but the 2 in the pic above have one! Took mine off anyhow. Gave it a good clean up yesterday, most of it came up well but the mudguards have had it, I've brought a bit of shine back to them but they will need painting unfortunately. The pedals have had it too, so i'm on the look out for parts or even another bike to nick bits off. That looks a real bargain if you aren't too far away.
The mudguard chrome is the cheapest rubbish, not on top of copper or anything so it just falls off.
