Phil - final spec not certain yet, need to find an ECU (if anyone knows of one please shout, if we have to go for a new one it'll probably be a Ecumaster); we'll post up as soon as a decision is reached Mark - look forward to it, hopefully we won't hit too many hurdles timewise (famous last etc.!) Been a good weekend on the wheels front - picked up the Mustang wheels which have good legal tyres and will suit the sleeper look a treat, and for bling some Torque Thrust II alikes which I *think* should fit

Hi Mark - wheels are from American Motor City in Epsom, bargainacious £450 the set inc lug nuts, socket, and centre cap, they were the last set but I'll ask whether he is getting / could get some more in In other news we're waiting on news of a test bore of the block to check that the 2 naughty bores will clean up OK at +030; fingers crossed!

Well, we have a final spec for the engine Simon at Real Steel has been a real help in working out what parts will work together well in what is a fairly obscure engine nowadays, and with a little imagination of our own and lots of calculations over Compression ratios and all sorts we've gone for Pistons at 410 + 030" (we nearly went 428 on the basis that if some's good, more's better and too much is just right, but there's a real risk of scrapping the block) - final capacity 6820cc Crank grind -010" Rods recircled Bottom end balance ARP rod bolts & head / rocker studs New oil & water pumps New high torque cam / lifters / cam bearings Pair of new Edelbrock ali cylinder heads (the old ones were v tired, & the cost difference is minimal) 600 Holley to keep things simple / get her up running and proven while we build up the EFi system Edelbrock ali crossplane inlet manifold (non-RPM, we're building for torque, power will be a by-product New flexplate and starter (a long story which I won't bore you with!) New dizzy (Mallory Electronic) Mustang alternator Tubular headers And then some subtle rocker covers and air filter to finish it off (and hide the EFi once it's in there) Have also ordered a front disc brake conversion kit, and pick up the Mustang wheels and tyres tomorrow Feels like progress, albeit mainly of the ordering shiny bits variety! Pics to follow when they arrive Cheers Matt PS if the Mrs is reading this it's a standard scrapyard engine dear! Only just come to this thread but this is an awesome car and that's gonna be an awesome engine. I bet the quote from RS was fun! So is it an FE engine or the earlier Mercury lump?

Hi Dick (sorry to read about your Mustang btw and good luck with part deux Yep, the engine's an FE out of a 66ish Mercury. Still waiting news of the test bores like an expectant father! Hopefully all will be well and we can get cracking with the build - more as we have it Cheers Matt

Haha - that'll do, and thanks for translating! Sooo, as of Friday morning I was sworn that if this engine needed so much as an additional quid spent on it - that was it, it was scrap Then came the call... just one liner needed...oh, and a dip 20 seconds, 5 hundred quid. If I'd known at the outset what this engine would end up costing we'd have thrown a cutout in her ab initio, but given how much I've fallen in love with the old girl as we've stripped her down it has to be a resto Sooo...one in each hand and we forge on... here's hoping for no more nasty surprises! Cheers Matt

Hi MWM - Just been over for a gander at your wee beastie - stunning! We're on 4.5 x 5 - no idea of ET nor even what the difference between that and backspacing is, but order and hope, right?! If Amy turns out half as cool as yours I'll be a happy bunny and no mistake - I won't be going air, so can't hope for the same degree of lows though! Cheers Matt

Cheers... It's a big project... Never ending, but always worth it. Mines a wide 5 inch pcd, i can never find any wheels to fit, and i fancy a change!

They sold those in Australia right into the 1960's . Is the engine a 352 or 390? . A guy here was giving away a pretty good 390 just before Christmas,as hes installing a 428 in his mustang restomod project. Are you going to add bags to the rear so you can tow ?

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

Lovely old bus. Shall I keep an eye out on the Cruise over the next couple of years, then?

Cheers... It's a big project... Never ending, but always worth it. Mines a wide 5 inch pcd, i can never find any wheels to fit, and i fancy a change! That's an odd PCD for a Ford. Only the '73 Thunderbird ran that. Jeep Cherokee ('99 onwards), Chrysler Voyager and various Chev's from the 70's/80's ran that. Check for 5x127 to find them.

5inch pcd, is what all the "full size" fords had...basically truck running gear under the car.... Hence it's not a popular wheel pcd option!
