I forgot to try this out again when we got the Scalextric out. I wanted to make a Volvo estate and this is the result. The original pictures are actually of my car and if I had realised just how long it took to alter the proportions I would have taken better ones with less reflection in. The image once turned into a flattened version that could be cut out and folded was printed on thick photo paper. The chassis I used was the F1 car from the Cars film with the body removed. It took hours to do it. Did you keep a copy of the layout as I would love to make one for my son he is heavily into modified Volvos with a 307BHP 334lbsft 940

So I've set up a circuit and taken a few photos. Sorry aficionados, but this is the slot car equivalent to Thomas The Tank Engine whizzing around the dining room table So no scenery, not even any barriers or borders... From the start, heading into the chicane... Into the esses chicane, which has to be an esses to avoid the guitar stand... Through the esses... Exiting the chicane, into the straight between the bookcase and the armchair, then into a 90 right under the footstool... And into the first crossover, into another 90 right... And another 90 right over the chair leg... A sweeping left into the skid chicane... Over the skid chicane into a long left... And into a 180 right... And over the second crossover... Into a last 90 right, back to the start.

I used the chipboard flooring boards that can be used for flooring out a loft space. They came tongue and grooved so fitted together nice and tight and are nice and sturdy, the support frame is just inch square wood.

Scalextric Austin Maxi, chassis is an old lemans Porsche, so it handles quite well and the wheel base was just right. It was a test with an old knackered Airfix Maxi that i ruined years ago. Ive got 4 airfix maxis, so another one might get the chop soon. Have you seen how much those Maxi kits sell for, you might change your mind about chopping it up.

Yes i know how much they sell for, and its worth that much to me to get one running properly as a slot car. Ive already sold 2 unmade kits, my dad collected them so its not like they cost me anything. The green one in the pic is a resin body based on the airfix one, that might be the one that gets the chop, the blue one and the sandglow one are replicas of my dads old cars, so actualy worth far more to me than an unmade airfix kit lol

Would love to build another but not at the price they go for.

What did you use to make your raised track area?

Sorry misread the question, off cuts and odds and ends of wood kicking around the garage for the raised up section. For the sides and the curved wall around the track it's that slotted flexible 6mm MDF painted grey.

If anyone is looking for some cars, Hawkin's Bazaar have some half-price deals. I got a Sierra Cosworth RS500 and BMW E30 M3 today for £19.99 each, and they also had a Mini, Mk1 Cortina, Aston Martin DBR9 and a few others. A few of these are out of stock on their website, but in stock at some stores. Worth checking out if you have one nearby.

Really like the Volvo 850! You can get a resin bodyshell kit from Pendle Slot Racing LinkyI made a big slot car recently, big enough to carry 3 Minis. Here it was in 1964 Then a few years later it was on its way to Italy in a film you might know I designed a steering system for the four front wheels Bodyshell done in the same sintered nylon as the chassis. Painted and graphics on

Thats brilliant, makes my card Volvo 940 look a bit rubbish, oh well !
I'm guessing the printer you have is a bit better then the ones for sale in Maplins, or are they that much better now ?
