Mk3 escorts IMHO are starting to get very collectable as they always used to live under the shadow of mk1&2 escorts , which will always have a cult following due to its rally pedigree
People are now realising that the mk1&2 are too far out of reach price wise so jumping on the mk3 &4 bandwagon
I have 3 mk3 escorts all of which are very rare and sought after already which brings me to my point they will all become classics but like anything it's the golden goose cars such as s1 non customs , graphite grey and caspian blue rs16i that will fetch silly money
Have just turned down a 9k offer on one of my old mk3 escorts just last week And yes that's right 9k
It all depends on owners/history mileage and rareness IMHO
And think only the mk5 rs 4x4 will be worth strong money in years to come as there are practically none left now

No no mate i didn't take it that way at all, Thats good to know , i really don't want to offend anyone . As for love for the under dog ive got two Imps , the Minis underdog and ive had a Marina , under dogs have a strange fasination with me , Marina was hideous but i loved it . P100s are superb bits of kit and getting very rare now , i nearly bought one a few years back but it was a tad water soluble and the rear wings were made of cheese / filler / dulux. Any pics of yours ?

interesting topic.when I was in my early twenties in the early eighties I would not have touched a mk1 escort with a bargepole,i was into consul capris and mk1/mk2 cortinas, and the mk1 escort seemed too modern! It wasn't until I drove my mk1 escort in 1997 that I was hooked, this was before there was a cult following and high prices.i don't think it follows that people will buy a mk3 escort as a cheaper alternative to a mk1 escort.they will have a later escort because they like it for what it is in the same way I love my morris minors, but I would sell them both tomorrow if it was a choice between them and my escort.you either get it or you don't and a lot of people do get it which has pushed the prices up.you could get a gorgeous dolly sprint or viva hc for a lot less money and yet people still pay big money and there is good reason for that.sorry to drone on but there does seem to be a lot of negativity towards mk1/mk2 escorts

Thread revival!! A couple of months ago I bought a 1994 mk5 1.6 Escort saloon. It's a one owner car with full service history and all the bills and receipts with only 43k miles on the clock and is near enough mint! I bought it as I prefer to drive older cars (ive had many newish cars and 1 brand new car which i sold after 3 months!!) and I'm massive Ford nut,and as the price of old Fords are continuing to rise, I thought I'd buy it now and stick it under a cover for a few years until my mk2 Mondeo is past her best. My Escort may not be one of the models that rises in price by a fortune but I don't think they'll be many left in a few years time when I'm looking to replace my Mondy. Plus by then it'll look so different to everything else on the road, especially after I've fitted some nice alloys and lowered it!

They were fantastic to drive at 60mm lower, great over speed bumps no scraping i also modified the front lower arms moving the ball joint inboard to stop it wearing the inside edge of the tyres because of the camber

Just make sure you get uprated shocks as well as springs, the rears kill standard shocks at 60mm

Ive been looking to by a mk5 RS2000 last month or so just to put away. But I can remember how badly the mk5 escort rusted 15 years ago! Some of the ones ive been to see are in a shocking way so bad ive more or less give up. The bulkhead behind the dash just falls away with rot.

My 1992 Ford Escort van, K101 XOX. I know what you're thinking, that's nothing special. Yep, i'd agree with that, i mean it was ok, but it was just an old mk5 Escort van. The thing is it was my daily, but back in January 2004 it failed its MOT. Various things, cracked windscreen, steering rack, and other bits and bobs. It got laid up, just temporarily though, or that was the plan, but other things got in the way, other cars, jobs, so on and so fourth. It's now been temporarily laid up for twelve years! I've actually been using it as a shed, and the back is full of all kinds of spares for all kinds of cars that i might need someday. But the thing is i don't think i've seen an Escort of any description on the road for a long loooooooooooooooong time! I know that there's probably dozens of you out there with Escorts, and probably even dozens of you near where i live, but i've just not noticed them. I thought i'd make a start by opening the bonnet, to see what was lurking in there, that was a laugh, the bonnet catch did not want me to see inside, but after quite a lot of gentle persuasion it was open to reveal... The mighty 1.8 litre diesel engine! Now to be fair to the old thing, when i was still using it this engine ran very well. I havn't yet had a poke around underneath, but i'm guessing its going to be fairly bad? It had never needed welding before it was laid up, but i'm thinking that twelve years outside on the concrete won't have done the underneath any good at all! At this point i'm wondering if the best option would be to free up the brakes, get the engine running, and take it to an MOT station so that atleast i know what it needs? I'm not planning a concourse restoration or anything like that, i'm just thinking get it on the road, and maybe tidy it up a little. So what do you reckon gang? Can it be done, and is it worth doing?

I couldnt give away my Mk5 5 years ago. It was kind of rare too. A 1.4 Mistral (XR3I factory look a like). Had it on here for a bit but ended up selling it to banger racers in the end for £150 I was moving house and had to to get rid of it due to having nowhere to keep it. Also it seemed like the big ends went on it as it was just sat around on the drive!! (i kept it there for 5 weeks as i could bare to part with it) Absolutely gutted. Only ever seen mk5 1.6 versions of these. I'd just bought the Focus i still have for £1000 and part of me wish i'd just put more money into that Escort (would have been a silly idea). I've replaced it with a Mk3 Red 3 Door now. its not quite as easy to live with as the mk5 is more of a "modern everday car"by far. Funny thing is i'll never probably be able to buy a mk3 like mine know so, i HAVE to keep it... Maybe i could replace the Focus with a mk5 know haha!

I have just acquired a 1993 ex BT van, so I say get it back on the road but I am now biased, Get a thread going then !
