There's some awesome photos in this thread I thought I might add some of my home town,Turriff in Aberdeenshire.
All these photos are from a local facebook group "Turra now and then"
Some are public domain and others I got permission to use here.
I hope you enjoy.
First are a few of the back streets of Turriff, taken in the mid to late 80's I think, judging by the cars. Permission kindly given by J. Dempster to show them here.
The white 309 is possibly my first car although the photo was taken some time before I owned it, there wasn't many 309 gti's in Turriff.
Nice XR3
Tidy Mk1 Astra GTE parked behind the Union Bar.
The next group of photos are concentrated on the Square in the centre of Turriff, at various times.
Looking down from the Fife Hotel in the 70's
Almost the same view but from the 60s maybe?
This photo is looking up at the Fife Hotel in the 60's.
And a similar view a decade or so later.
The next group of photos are from the local scrappy, Jimmy Low was an eccentric old chap who owned this place from the 50's when it was a busy wee filling station, he worked and lived there right up until about 2006/2007 when ill health forced him to move to into the town. I had the pleasure of working for him on and off for a few years in the early 90's. He taught me a lot about old motors and it's where my love of anything retro started, he was a hoarder of the highest order, his house was crammed full of stuff and his entire yard was chock full of motors, right up to the edge of the road, he had a few run ins with the council about that It was a great place to work, although a little bit dangerous at times haha. Sadly Jimmy passed away a few years ago and his site was cleared.
These photos would have been taken in the late 70s / early 80's I think, it's exactly like it was in the 90's and right up until it was cleared, some of the vehicles in the photos were still there 30 years later
Permission to post these was also given via J. Dempster.
