Here is what they call an eco mod a wheel cover on a modern car but there is part of me that thinks that although this has been done for economy it would have been better if done firstly for aesthetics then economy.   I mean they did it rather well on the old american and British cars 1964 Cadillac   More on here www.angelfire.com/ny3/nto/1961Cadillac1970.html1996 Buick Roadmaster sedan (nice idea but to much chrome down the side for my liking)    Now this comes close to what I was thinking. 1977 Pontiac Bonneville Brougham  Jaguar xk120 roadster  If they could clip into the wheel arch and follow the lines without looking out of place when on or off the car that would make a hell of a difference. |

Honda Insight immediately comes to mind.  I was planning to fit spats on my Polo, but the project never got that far, sadly. However, I do have a car with spats now anyway, probably the last of the Citroens to have this treatment in fact.  Other Citroens with the same treatment, all falling into the Retro bracket nicely... Visa is less pronounced than some.  The CX does it well.  As does the DS.  Not forgetting the SM.  Obviously there's the Dyane and 2CV in this category too.   Here's a couple of Holdens with spats, a car I've not seen given this treatment before.   |

I don't just mean those manufactured with them but those designed
and fitted by owners or after market made.
I always did like the look of the cx and the bx was a little to angled for
my liking.

I was thinking they could do with the top of frt wheels covered as well, for a full ring of chrome/side-trim.

not like that they look horrid richp.
I was thinking of a cross between the american partial wheel covering and it fitting
flush with full body panel similar to the old jags.
Hence it would be a bit of thick paper or card taped to the bodywork to find out how
high up the arch would need to be to allow the wheel to be free moving.

As my neon is seriously exposed to the north sea the wind coming straight off it was enough for the sheet of lining paper I took out side near the car is probably on the west coast by now(yes I was stupid enough to go outside in this weather to even try and look¬¬ :  |

I remembered that a fellow neon enthusiast over on neons.org who had posted photos of his neon with fender skirts for his eco modded neon. So I dropped him an email asking tfor information on what he actually did so I could theorise a possible way for me to look into doing it on mine just not in the same style he has done so in his photographs. Chris Since the satellite dish I used curved outwards, there was enough
clearance.
I currently have a 185/60/14 on OEM 14" steel wheels and took a
picture so show you what I guess normal would be. If you go
straight across at the crease in the side of the car, it does hit the
tire.
Wheels are 14", +40et, 5.5" wide with very skinny tiyres.  And after he photo shopped himself out of the pictures.   Chris did say one important thing about his fender skirts! "I never did install them"Here is a link to his thread on neons/org which led me to ask him. forums.neons.org/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=308549&hilit=tire+spatsOkay back to a little reaserch on design of how they can be fitted. Here are some photos of a pair of 1971 impala fender skirts.   I have lost the picture which shows the lever being moved. I the above photo there is a small bar which makes a latch and pivots so it goes over a lip to hold the top of the fender skirt in place after low points of the fender skirt has been slotted into holes on each side of the wheel arch In the short time there was a good bit of weather I popped out to the old girl with a bit of lining paper some sticky tape to hold the paper in place and a pen. After getting a rough marking on the paper I spent a little time later after I had warmed back up and came up with this!  Using the paper above a card template will be made to see if this is fesable or just nonsense! |
