Not on a pre-2001 car, no. I thought that number plates had to be a certain style and font to be readable by plod's A.N.P.R.? "Number plates must now use one specific, mandatory typeface - a very simple sans serif typeface intended to make the numbers easy to read by both humans and automatic recognition systems, which are increasingly being used by the police and other agencies. All hard-to-read variants, such as multiple stroke and italic fonts, are now prohibited. The one decorative variation still permitted is a 3D effect version of the mandatory typeface." www.regtransfers.co.uk/main/numberplates.asp

Basically, if the car is pre-2001, it can have any font style it likes, as long as it is reasonably similar to the prescribed font, I.e. easily readable and correctly laid out. Sure, 'techinically' if you bought a new set of plates for a pre-2001 later than 2001, it is supposed to fully conform to the new regs, but since number plates don't bear a manufacturing date, it would be possible to argue the plates are older than 2001. Anyone who had German-style plates on a Mk3 Golf, for example, is perfectly permitted by Law to have them, as long as the BS marker is on them, there isn't a 'D' country marker on it or those replica German tax stickers.

That's nice ^^
The purchase of the Coupe means that, as I only want to run two cars, and I have the Celica GT-4 as well, I will be selling the blue 80. Sad, but necessary.
