Went over to Keith's today - fitted the rear window Odd fitment with the window being fitted from the inside to the outside Sealed up and the chrome trim fitted which was a royal pain due to the trim being badly sprained whilst being rechromed Then put my trade plates on it - filled it with fuel and drove it the 60 miles back home So now I can crack on and try to complete the odd bits of paint & trim that it requires before next Thursday

Tackled the most time consuming job first - the headlining Initial fit on to it's support rails The door aperture beading has to be applied has part of the process Lots of staples and trim glue later - the rear comes together - parcel shelf fitted along with the metal window trims Front end likewise The door aperture beading & headlining fasten / staple at the same point Fortunately SWMBO owns this professional air powered upholstery staple gun which made lighter work of the task A separate trim is then glued over the staple line / headlining / aperture trim to hide it Front completed, window trim & rear view mirror fitted along with the interior light Probably all looks simple but headlining's are not something you can rush - this has taken me a fair few hours to complete - there is a few very minor ripples but nothing that a steaming will not sort Then started to sort the carpets - rear seat upstand & floor done along with the chrome edge keeps More tomorrow

A very nice job on what looks like quite a challenging headlining, shape wise.

So a few last minute jobs on this in order to get it ready for duty at Goodwood Revival Boot lid had been scratched and required repainting Managed to sort most things before Peter arrived from Switzerland to spend a day cleaning / detailing it at my place - my camera phone was playing up so very few pics - sorry Got my local tyre centre to balance the wheels on their very old balancer (they retain it for large centred wheels which modern wheels balance machines cannot accommodate) They even used stick on weights on the inside rim hence no visible balance weights on the outer rim Final few pictures from the cars owner - Peter - car on period / classic taxi duties at Goodwood Revival - outside The Kennels which is the Goodwood Road Racing Club members club Then after Revival Peter took the car over to France en route home Where it was loaded to a trailer for it's onward return to Switzerland Now home safely I spoke to Peter yesterday who is working his way through some final touches and a few improvements that he wants to make to the car - some of the door rubbers still need to be fitted and some retrimming to the door cards - he also wants add additional soundproofing - the front suspension has now been readjusted so that car sits slightly higher - he will continue through winter to get all the minor odds completed - the car is due to return to the UK next March prior to being exhibited at a very large Classic car event in the Midlands - it will then stay in the UK to enable attendance at the Jowett Car Clubs national rally in Harrogate in May - before returning to Switzerland and then returning to the UK in September for another appearance at Goodwood Revival - then a prompt return to Switzerland in order for Peter to host a Jowett Car Club international rally in his home town - so it's going to be seeing some miles getting added to it - I will update the thread has progress is made / pics allow but for now that's another restoration officially off my completed list

This is amazing work. I must look out for the car if it's close to me.
Where is Peter's home town?

Great job and great thread.
Just curious: what's the wheel pcd and centre bore? They look very close to Saab V4 wheels, which are 5x170 with a 130mm centre bore.

This is amazing work. I must look out for the car if it's close to me. Where is Peter's home town? Using my eagle eyes on that last trailer pic I believe I just see a TG prefix? Thurgau? So that would put it somewhere between us thebaron - pretty close to here in the south D. But I could be seeing things? Either way a nice car and a great job.

It could be TG or ZG (Zug) but either way not too far from me. I'll keep an eye out for the Jowett specific event in 2018.

Ah - Might be slightly misleading has the van & trailer are not registered to the owner of the Javelin and belong to a good friend of Peters who transported the car back for him - Peter resides in Arbon on the shores of Lake Constance - currently we have about 40 cars heading over there next September for the Swiss Jowett rally that Peter is organising - some members are planning to travel over to Dusseldorf and then load the cars to the sleeper train and travel into Switzerland whilst other members will form a convoy and drive all the way - quite a lot of us are planning to return to the UK after the rally via Mulhouse to view the Schlumpf collection - (now the French National Automobile Museum) - then return via varying shopping regions to keep the ladies happy - no doubt that cases of cheese / wine etc shall be purchased along the way
Peter is cracking on with various improvements and finishing touches to the car and is making good progress - the carburettors don't appear to be quite up to it and the car is poor at starting - I will source a pair over here and have them rebuilt for him prior to shipping them over to Switzerland.

Great job and great thread. Just curious: what's the wheel pcd and centre bore? They look very close to Saab V4 wheels, which are 5x170 with a 130mm centre bore. Correct and they are the only other manufacture with an identical PCD so well spotted - hence we have always been limited on wheels / tyre choice - however we have a member that races a Jowett Jupiter that has recently had a bespoke period style alloy wheel manufactured (very expensive) but now it opens up the choice of tyres that he can race on

That's just over the other side of lake Konstanz, maybe 70kms from here?

I suppose they are 15"? Did you know also some Renault Master ('98-'05)/ Opel– Vaux Movano ('98-'00) wheels come in this pcd? They are 15", 6J and ET66: There is also a 5J version for the Renault Maxity/ Nissan Cabstar (>'07) light truck which has a 106.5 offset. The standard steel Saab wheels come in many varieties that are all slightly different from each other, but generally 4J wheels are ET46.5 and 4.5J are ET39 (Saab used different manufacturers like Lemmenz and Fergat for near-identical wheels and the offset differs somewhat between them).

Steel Disc Wheels 3.00 x 16 Rims. 1.375” Inset. 5 Studs 3/8” diameter on 7.375” Pitch Circle Diameter. Tyres – Goodyear 5.25 x 16.
I also raced Jowett Jupiters which are basically the same wheel with holes in the web and to use sensible tyres I used 15 inch wheels that came off a SAAB but I did have to alter the PCD and put some spacers in for offset adjustment.
You may also have seen my car being restored on another thread where it had the specially made wheels that I used on the Saharan rally. They were made from modern steel twice as thick as OEM (similar to the SAAB thickness) and easily survived going at speed over the very rough Saharan piste.
Because of wider rims these allowed 175 tyres to be fitted that sat square to the road surface.
Of course, always interested to learn of wheels that may be available.

Peter has been slowing completing tasks on the Javelin since returning home with it - however, we thought it worthy with the car nearing completion and now on the road that it ought to be on the Jowett Car Club stand at the forthcoming NEC Restoration Show - so on Thursday morning Peter left Switzerland with the car - he stayed overnight in France and then caught the ferry on Friday - by 1800 hours he was turning down the lane to Grumpy Towers - 700 miles in two days + ferry trip - not bad for a 1500cc car which is close to celebrating it's 70th birthday - yesterday we were out at a club committee meeting and this morning were greeted to this After completing some work on the Jowett Bradford project we made room in the workshop and brushed the snow off the Javelin Now in the workshop we left the heater on overnight to dry the car out and I will start on the list of minor odds that Peter would like sorted on the car tomorrow

Peter encounted a a problem on the way over in the respect of the radiator fan & drive shaft support for it - it's an unusual configuration with the radiator being mounted close to the bulkhead of the car rather than the front - a driveshaft comes from the water pump to drive the fan - for some reason the fan had become unbalanced with the supporting brackets failing due to the vibration from the in-balance A set of used ones had been obtained and Peter proceeded to remove the broken ones and replace them with the ones obtained Once fitted the engine was started and the in-balance on the driveshaft transmitted from the fan became obvious - having also sourced a couple of spare fans we removed the original and fitted one of the spares - the difference upon restarting the engine was again obvious i.e. non existent Problem resolved Peter removed the new fan, cleaned it up and repainted it - refitting it once dry Next issue was to sort the exhaust - although a new system when the car was recently restored all Javelins suffer from the poor design of the system which travels through a chassis aperture just forward of the nearside rear wheel - the pipe tends to move sufficiently enough to knock against the aperture - especially when the torque is being released into the drivetrain via clutch changes I wrapped the exhaust section within the aperture with heat retardant exhaust wrap and secured it on either side with a stainless steel clip - just needs road testing but it appears to do the job Next was to replace a Z bracket that I had no confidence in It was only made of a 2mm soft material and allowed the exhaust to flex about too much New one made of a good quality 3.2mm material was made up & painted Then fitted it Meanwhile I have been making progress on fitting the door seals These are glued on to the internal aperture of the doors themselves Which is a time consuming process We should be able to carry on and get these completed tomorrow hopefully - in-between this I am sorting all the tools & equipment plus all the display equipment for the restoration show so it's a bit non stop currently at Grumpy Workshops
