I rent the property so didn't really want something integral fitted in the garage. I wanted t be able to unbolt/dismantle it all come the time I have to move out.

Here is another idea....
Go to your local B&Q and Homebase etc to the kitchen planning department and explain that you want some old units for the garage.
Fitters are often at a loose end as to what to do with the old kitchen.
I gave 50% of the one I took out of our house away to be fitted to someone elses kitchen as it was better than the one they had fitted. The rest I cut up with a circular saw and we burn some of it every night now.
The worktops are great too, thick, good surfaces and resilient to general handiman work..... so you could top them off to look and function really well.
I am very sure you will have success if you go and ask and explain.
The fitters may even be prepared to move the old units to your garage for a small fee as they usually have a van on the premises.
