I'm looking to make one of these myself in the next few weeks. But have one really important question before starting. How do you cut into the gas bottle without it blowing up in your face? Remove the valve and fill with water, then empty water out, cut bottle simple

Thanks for all the advice. I actually think one of my major problems is that I'm uncomfortable. Until I get the PROPER gear....gloves, auto darkening helmet, decent jacket, I'll not be able to put my full attention to learning to weld. At the moment I'm learning one handed, blind and dodging balls of metal. Possibly your struggling to start the arc, so are turning the power up thinking it is because it lacks power, AC welding is always difficult to start, because most rods are DCEN, that means they work best on DC with the earth connection negative The mig welding forum has excellent tutorials www.mig-welding.co.uk/arc-tutorial.htm
