The reason I think the Marina coupe is RIP is because it was taxed until 2000, so it should be SORN if its still around, and its not, so I think it isn't.
What a shame we have three cars we can see from shows, in the hands of enthusiasts, just a few years ago and when we run the plates none of them are still on the road.
OK the dub isn't at a show but you'd assume it was an enthusaist car.
We assume then that the Marina wagon also met its end?
I'm sure I've seen a Viva which looked just like that purple one at a show but I can't remember how recently.

I never bothered with a SORN for the 3 years the Capri was "Chillin out round the back" and the DVLA never gave me any attitude. Theres been a couple of gaps in the taxing since and still nothing. For some reason they aint picking on my `pri.
But I know what youre saying, you see some nice 25 year old cars in good hands in 1998 and you don't expect them to be all gone less than 10 years later.

whats depressing is to get a few copies of Street Machine or Practical Classics from the 80s, 90s and run the plates on the feature cars....

Yeah, cant understand how they can get from being so cherished/well customised that they are featured in a national magazine to being gone completely...At what point do they embark on this rocky road? Of course some will be dormant, and anything that lives at a garage or trade premises may never get taxed as it can be taken for a blast on trade plates, but that`ll only be a few.

A mate of mine got the old club membership details folder from the VX4/90 Drivers Club - basically all the people who had left the club, and the records went back about 10 years. He then got all the FD series Victors, Ventora, VX 4/90s in a pile and ran the registrations throught the DVLA website and bearing in mind that these were all club member cars an astounding number of them (like about 70%) were MIA.

Thats frightening, I remember watching Randall & Hopkirk repeats over 10 years ago and thinking how rare (and f*cking ace) FD Victors were and since then 70% of club owned examples have vanished! (mind you, the Randall & Hopkirk one made it to 1987 so that wasnt a bad innings)

Same lad sold a nice solid 1600 base model with the bench seats in it to a localish fella, all it needed was a little tidying and a repaint. That was 4 years ago and the car hasn't been taxed since and hasn't been seen anywhere. Same lad sold a Victor 2000 which I sold him, to a lad who seemed very enthusiastic, 3 months later a change trip to the local scrappy and there it is, same car! Failed its MOT on wiper blades and steering rack (fail sheet was in the car) so the new owner justscrapped it. Luckily it hadn't been stacked so my mate bought it back off the scrappy and restored it! I bet a lot went this way...

I guess cars like these are never really worth loads £, maybe they get left during rebuild, broken for parts as worth more, sold on to a owner who kills it with neglect or scary driving, or maybe like you its in a yard and they have not been hassled by sorn. I think you are meant to tell em a car is sorn really but no hassle over 5 years, safest thing to do is just by a tax when ya ready, theyve obviously forgotten you. ;D

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I know people who have been done for failure to SORN. Usually when they buy a car thats SORN and then keep it off the road, not realising that you have to re-SORN it as the new owner.
Cars which never got SORN in the first place years back seem to be immune from this but once its on the computer as SORN you have to keep on top of it.

Loads of people get done for SORN offences, I`d say its the majority, they just havent ever done me. The Capri is actually off the road in a secure lockup 6 months of the year, the other half it gets taxed up and used, and the DVLA don't seem to mind me not bothering to tell them whats happening, including the 3 unbroken years from 00-03 while it was being ignored/recommisioned. Funny really they're normally straight in there with an instant fine.
I cant understand someone buying something as obviously retro and stylish as an FD Victor in the 21st century and then treating it like a disposable K-reg Escort they`d just bought to deliver pizzas in or something. Doesnt it ever occur to these people that it might have some value even if it does need a bit of work doing.
Reminds me of the time I saw an MGC in the part exchange compound of a scrote finance, £1500 minimum part ex for any old car type place. I don't know how the hell that happened.

I got this Oldsmobile from a car dealer. Apparantly the owner had brought it in and PX'ed it for a Primera He can't have given the bloke muck of a trade in on it as I only gave him £750 for it!

!!! You don't still have the Olds do you? Obscure X-body FTW! Sadly not. I wish I'd never sold it. It was a one owner car with a FSH too. Bought by a British diplomat in Washington in '73 and shipped back here in '76. It was really tidy too.
