[OFF SUBJECT] Sorry to change the subject slightly, is there any law about parking outside someones house? Would just like to know because my next door neibours (sp) son keeps parking his work van outside our house. I need that space after christmas and I cant use my driveway. [EDIT] Forgot to add, my driveway is also used for pushchairs, old people, bikes, etc. to get up from the road onto the pavement. It is a council build one and is illegal to block these isn't it? Something to do with council regulations or something? [/EDIT] [/OFF SUBJECT] Park in it first ;D

Early in the year one of my "neighbours" boxed my car in with an unmarked hire van. Needlessly I might add - there were at least seven free spaces at the time. Unfortunately I had to go out due to an emergency at 2am. So, I called the Police to find out who owned it, and obviously got no joy. Rather than knock on everyone's doors (potentially 20 houses), I borrowed a car..... THEN the Police came out and ticketed the van - £40-odd fine for unnecessary obstruction! Made me grin. Then the chap who parked it there came 'round my house while I was out and shouted at Mrs JS which really upset her. To the point where the Police had to go see him about his behaviour. Moral of the story: Yeah, people can get fined etc, but if they're ignorant buggers, a fine won't change that....

minidan, you can't prevent anyone from parking anywhere. Our neighbour in Brum seemed to think this wasn't the case and he'd always park within milimetres of your car if you dared to park in front of his house. We rarely if ever got to park outside our own house! Thought he was a fool but then he gave me a present (model 2CV) when I asked him to move his bleedin' car! That took the wind out of my sails! Hmmm... I will try asking nicely. See what that does. He always gets home before me.

Hope you shopped that twunt! I hate people that get so curse word about something as stupid as a parking space - the neighbours always curse word about my capri (how dare he have more than one car when back from uni!11!1!!1 etc) but you know what? The more they curse word the more I park it to annoy them. If they just asked nicely i'd stop doing it.

well it was all very strange behaviour. There were quite several witnesses, but I guess not the actual owner of the car. In the end I suppose everyone did what we did - nothing. In the morning the car was gone so I couldn't make a note of the number etc to dob him in. I do feel a bit guilty as if it was my car I'd have been gutted and it was indeed right out of order. Also I guess me and Mrs Z failed the "would you get involved test", so I feel bad about that too. You just hear so much about people who get on the wrong side of obviously whacko neigbours...
:-(
I thought that if the person had had the council lower the pavement to make a driveway you couldn't park across it at any time?
(mod). Interesting to see if (given that I'm sure the owner would have reported the damage) Mr Plod does even any basic investigating around the neighbours. I'm guessing not.

To me leaving a car across someone's drive entrance is just something you don't do - ever. It's not only rude and disrespectful it's bleedin dangerous if they need to get somewhere fast.
I can totally understand someone going ape over it.

Yup, its illegal to park anywhere over a lowered kerb. In theory you should imagine there's double red lines where the kerb is lowered and if you do park there, you can have your car towed! Seen it happen - unlucky

Lets face it parking is a nightmare isn't it, and the loss of communication in our communities (which cars and spread out towns/lives have something to do with), plus the lack of morale, selfishness and greed (caused imo by modern life and the crappy govt rulings) has made people very unapproachable! honk your horn cos someone nearly kills you and you often get a road rage attack or atleast a stare and u turn. that sounds preety rough JonnyS, I don't know the answers. When the GF lived in over populated apartment-conversion-ville West Didsbury, I got home early enough for a space (even for the sapph), but go out after 5 in the car and you are doomed, so we stayed in or used bikes if we had to or it was parking on another road! moving in and out was fun. not!

A friend of mine used to visit his GF in Nottingham and often had run ins with the local parking Gestapo.
One time he was lucky enough to get a space in the drive but came out to leave and found a van blocking the entrance. Not just any van, a parking attendant van! He found the driver sat in it and asked him to move to which the man snottily replied "Can't mate, it's broken down." my mate, not one to back down, grumbled that it was obstructing his drive entrance and should be moved, the now agitated and impatient attendant barked back that the tow truck was on the way and he'd just have to wait. Then, by sheer luck, a police car happened to trundle by and my mate waved the officer to stop. He explained the situation and the officer agreed whole heartedly that the law insists the van should be moved. The attendant begrudgingly flopped out of his van and proceeded to slowly struggle to heave it forward, my mate seeing he was struggling went to help but the police officer placed his arm out, turned to him, smiled and said quietly "No need for that mate, just enjoy watching."

Yup it's in the Highway Code, shouldn't obscure access to someone's drive and you certainly shouldn't obsure a drop-curb anywhere. It's seems that some dorks think the drives actually mark out the spaces you should park, on a nice long high street with no other cars and few areas that are actually drive entrances the morons will pick our dirve everytime, even though they could park directly opposite the shop they've 'only nipped down to'. What if we needed to get out in an emergency? They wouldn't like it. They could just as easily pull the car 10 feet forward and not curse word off anyone but no that's too taxing on their tiny minds. Sorry, pet hate along with fog lights permanantly on and people who don't know what the indicator stalk's for. Gurr.

like said beforeits illegal to park across a lowered Kerb, its a clamp offence, which is stupid as the car will just stay longer.
We have a guy like that 2 doors down from us, however he does know not to go anywhere near my cars or my property. We have callled the police to him numerious occations for trying to vandalise cars, namely mine, and also bumping into them.
Neadless to say the police did Sweet FA, so a nice visit by my self and few word like "you really don't wanna get into something you cant get out of do you?"
And now he does not even look in out direction which is good by me cus hes and ugly T*AT!

I own a shared drive with 3 houses, one of which is ran as a nursery. The owner thinks its her god given right to allow her customers to use the drive as a car park. If i pull up and its blocked i simply park my car across the entrance and go inside for 30mins. Unlucky!
I'm sure the car can be towed if its causing an obsruction and the owner cant be found btw That or buy your own clamp and start charging for the privelidge ;p

That or buy your own clamp and start charging for the privelidge ;p Sadly I'm pretty sure that's illegal, even on private land. HOWEVER.... If someone keeps parking in a daft manner, I find the best bet is to encourage your local banger racer to dump an immobile wreck in a manner so as to cause offence to the problem person (eg box them in with it, park it on their drive etc). As long as it can't be traced back to you, it works a treat! ;D Edit: Obv. it doesn't have to be a banger racer, could be local traveller / scrap dealer / whatever. Certainly upset my ex-neighbours in Bury St Edmunds - after a month of having three crunched Cavaliers outside the houses, they probably wished they hadn't bitched about my 100E. I'd moved out by then anyway - no comeback!

Don't feel bad on the voyeurism fella - it happens all too often unfortunately....... my neighbours came out to a fella after he pushed the Alfa into the Triumph - he promptly scribbled a note - they left. They told me and I picked up the note - in French - saying - your friends think I'm leaving my details - but I'm not! ....... funny now - but not best pleased at the time! I tried to stop a guy - way back, didn't see the buddy and woke up with 7stitches and needing my two front teeth (no songs please) capped! Sadly, you never know how far 'that lot' will take it! No matter on the parking - criminal damage is criminal damage - but the investigation won't happen - I'd bet on it..........

cmon, so someone parks across your drive, so you wreck there car? sometimes its un aviodable, if you HAVE to park across a drive, leave a phone number on the windscreen, and if someone else parks on your drive, ask the house either side and strait across the road whos it is, and ask if they can move it, and if its a regular thing, ask them to not do it.
i realy do fail to see how blocking someone in is equal to wrecking someones car. but then again.
As much as parking across someones drive 'isnt done' nor is picking a fight and asking questions later.
why not take the logical route, avoid violence, ask around etc and get the car shifted, or you can just act like a tw@t, smash it up / punt it out the way with your stolen 'motor' and get your self arrested like the traveller that you are.
