Nice. Ordered with V8 4-speed and no radio! Now that's what you call getting your priorities straight.
Akku, if you read Street Machine magazine (Australia) as I do, you get very accustomed to seeing at least two old cars per issue that have been retro-teched with an LS-series engine dropped into them. I'm not saying that they would be boring to own or drive. In fact, seeing them in the metal at a show I would probably be very impressed. However, seeing so many top quality cars in magazines and here on the forums, you do get bored of the more common combinations. It's like having a '32 Ford roadster with a 350ci Chev in it. Not a boring car by any means, but once you've seen a thousand of them they're no longer that interesting.

I think it was someone else said a 600 bhp LS3 would be boring. My coment was a little tongue in cheek. And I know exactly what you mean. LSn transplants fill the pages of the US mags I used to read. I'm the sort of chap that would rather see an Oldsmobile with an Olds motor in it, a Buick with a Buick in it so the "SBC or LSn" approach to motor-swapping does irk me. I'm sure if I did it I'd have a raft of "good reasons" for having done it though!
I wish I could get Street Machine over here. I've read a few which I have picked up in Hong Kong (!) and the like.

I actually received the latest issue in the post today. It only contains one retro-tech LS1 powered car, which is a very nice 1967 HR Holden Premier. It's got a T56 six-speed manual as well, nice! The reason for all the LS motors is that they're cheap, reliable and make good power.

The boys are on the money - Buick designed it as a v8 before selling the design to Rover, then proceeded to cut two cylinders off and keep it for themselves. Three versions used in aus, the first gen 3800 with 125kw, the L34 Ecotech version with upgraded heads/inlet manifold making 147kw - 152kw depending on model year, and the L67 Supercharged engine [165kw to 171kw]. Pros: -Relatively light and compact for a V6 of its capacity -Strong, in standard form they can take an absolute kaining -Heads on the L34/L67 models actually flow pretty well, bottom ends with the exception of pistons are strong -Punchy down low/mid range Cons: -Later model engines prone to head gaskets and head failure, particularly L67 versions. That said, they arent anywhere near as common as HGF on a Ford Falcon or, the british equivilant, MG, but it still does happen -All engines prone to spinning big ends, oiling system is not the best -HARSH/UNREFINED. I say this in capitals because anyone that has driven one will tell you, even a good one is nasty -don't like revs in standard form. Granted its a big v6 it shouldnt need to be revved too hard, its just they r-e-a-l-l-y run out of puff above 4600rpm. Almost like hitting a wall. Keep in mind Aus versions had local input to make them suitable for RWD conversions - american ones were very different. Was never really a fan of these engines until my girlfriends L34-powered Commodore blew up and i replaced it with the L67... Its in this. Made 130kw @ the rear wheels [175ish hp] completely standard. Now, to convince the woman to go a 12psi pulley and manual trans...

I think a further difference occurs when the US version becomes what they call "series II" and its referred to as a 3800 from then on. There was a supercharged version of that one.

I wish I could get Street Machine over here. I've read a few which I have picked up in Hong Kong (!) and the like. Utterpiffle bought me a subscription while he was out at the Nats a few years back. I don't get it any more but I can confirm that they were happy to post it to the UK. I've got twelve lovely issues here to prove it.
