so, i sold my bus for £5.5k went out and bought this for £399. '72, tax exempt, 1700cc, weber carbed, full dormobile conversion with sink, water tank, cooker, double bed, roof bunk, etc. its a minor MOT failure that need a pair of tyres and one peice of welding before retest. how much would a bay window fo the same spec cost?? anyone else out there rockin anything alternative in camperland?

OOOOOH! commer vans rule, the only van ever built with the wheel base of a rollerskate and the body of tube train. What do they drive like? I've always thought Choppy would be the correct description

My mate's dad ended up giving a Bedford CF camper away... the long one (a CF pickup chassis with a huuuuuge living compartment on as opposed to a CF van with windows) - 6 berth, hot and cold water, heating, 240v hookups, all new kitchen, sleeping space above cab. had just had an engine rebuild too, 2.4 petrol i think.
nobody wanted to travel to view it so he ended up donating it to the place it was stored at, in lieu of storage costs.

It was a Ford Thames.
Commer vans are indeed teh sh1zz. But towing a car trailer with one? Fookin' ell its only a low-comp 1700 hillman hunter engine. I think it would be safer to ride a 'Kettler' pedal powered go kart round the M25 the wrong way TBH.

if theres one thing its not gunna be, its fast! ;D top speed is 65mph. apparently theres a few tricks motor wise that can be done to get that to 75-80 without making it go bang or hammering the fuel. we'll see. slamming it on its should help too weve got a free parts donor van as well, for free, which is handy for the bits for the MOT. apart from that I'm thinking some paintwork once the repairs are done, keeping it yellow, but a B+W checked roof would look hot. as would gloss brown steels, WWWs and bullet caps..... funky interior retrim, some stickerage, job done!

I have to post this photo: Imagine a van with the wheelbase of a rollerskate and high C.O.G. like the Commer into which some idiot has put the weedy little Herald 948 engine! I give you the Standard Atlas! poor quality wobbly children's play pony p00 rare, if you find one and it's not for silly money buy it, I could put you in touch with someone who'd take it off your hands. I believe it later came as a Leyland with the 1500 lump.
