I WILL leave the country for good if this gets as bad as I belive it will. Thats me too. I'm prepared to pack some religious outfits and go live in dubai, A pile of research to do and look at their motoring habits but money for graduates, and low tax sounds good! Maybe the roads should be like mobile phones. Pay as you go for those who use only a bit And contract for daily/moderate users! LOL Black box in my car, better not happen , its bad enough as it is!

don't forget, if we have these 'black boxes' installed in our cars that accurately measures distance, it will only be a matter of time before the same device is used to prosecute people for speeding

Just thinking about it, if I had one in my car this morning I'd have that many points I wouldn't be allowed to drive home ;D

This is exactly why I'm leaving this country. I've had enough of being screwed left, right and centre to the point other nation's find our situation laughable. Although in all honesty, I'd be off anyway given that there are roads like this out there. ;D

However: Go and Google 'Intelligent Speed Adaptation'. Realise they're trialling it. Weep.

GF wont entertain my rants LOL, but if were going into environmetal warming etc, we/they need to look at the big picture and set about making MASSIVE changes to the worlds lifestyles! heating, travelling, multi person affordable efficiant transport, energy wasting, modernising builings, etc etc. when thats fixed i'll entertain a new tax scam! don't get me started! How did good old Phoney B-liar annunce that Britain would become the leading light in combating global warming? Simple, jump on a bloody plane to go to a meeting in Sweden and then have a news conference over there. Which meant all the Journalists had to jump on a bloody plane to Sweden to report on it. Nice one chap, lead by example, thats what I like to see. As for energy wasting, I predict that wthin a couple of years, town centres will be switching there christmas lights on at the end of July and not switching them off till June. Why are they already on, its only November. Do people really need reminding that they are about to max out there credit cards again? Also seen on the news today that they have opened an open air ice rink in Birmingham, how much energy is that gonna take to keep frozen day and night? Or is it just an experiment to see if it helps to cool the planet down a bit? Better stop ranting and go and drive my car while I still can.

Good question Mr Rocco, I think it is. Googled and found it, although as I recall the road runs up the otherside of the lake from the main highway... Hmm. Only other place is maybe the road that runs out of Queenstown up to the head of Lake Wakatipo (sp?), before it goes round and on up to the top... err, like... Best go back and find out! Back on topic, reference little black boxes. Six years ago I tested a similar device to Tracker. At pre-arranged times during the week, the control room would call me and tell me where I was. One conversation involved them apologising for not calling earlier when agreed, it's just I'd been speeding on the M6 and they didn't want to disturb me. Now I was parked in Corley services, they thought it would be a good time to call... Spooked me right out, I tell you...

I'm all for charging by the mile. Sorry.
Six months tax costs a lot for a Datsun that does less than 500 miles a year.
And if you drive 20,000 miles a year then you should pay more tax than someone who drives 500 a year. That's entirely reasonable.

Charlie I agree but thats not the way it will ever work - they will tax you by the mile - tax you with road tax - tax you on the petrol and then probably find another way to tax you on the tax

I've signed as well. Here's something to think about though...I do 23,000 miles a year, all of them commuting to and from work. My journey consists of the A4 & M4 during peak times. This means that my journey will more than likely fall in to the £1.34 a mile bracket - that's £30,820 a year just to run my car! Now that's not bad considering my car is worth about £500... Right, lets ignore the fact that it's going to cost most people lots more money to run their cars which will make people use them less. Therefore people will still need to commute and again more that likely need to use public transport - do we really think the government has made provissions to improve public transport - have they ****. And another thing, car prices would plummit, factories would close, car show rooms would close there would be more and more unemployment. The countries economic stability would be no longer, there would be riots, road blocades etc...basically we're talking about the country turning in to a Mad Max film. i'm NOT signing becasue i WANT this to happen yes it will turn into an absolute disaster and there will be riots, casualties and damage galore. this will destroy the system and force the absolute swearfiltercomeinhere that 'run' this country to fix it properly on OUR terms. thats a good thing BTW

Did some sums earlier... My OH works 16 miles away, there is only really one ay to get there, down the hideously busy A1M. At 'full whack' tolling that will cost her £42.88 a day.... which is barely covered by what she is paid. Plus whatever in fuel, RFL etc. Nice. Wonder if they've done the sums to see just how many people will be forced out of work and onto the dole, and how much that will cost?

Pog, Sean, BC, and suprisingskoda, and others, this is very real isn't it. worries me sick TBH, counry ready for meltdown, everyone will be on the dole or rioting, no room for earning a modest crust is there. make sure we ALL vote. Bryn, that blackbox thing is scary! ;D Good luck on your journey, look forward to the results, tell me you're keeping the buggy, if you were taking the buggy that would be amazingly cool!

You can vote all you like, but who are you going to vote for? All your main 'political' parties are exactly the same bunch of self-serving smug tw@ts.

If no one votes will they all dash off? ;D
I wonder where it will all end? Maybe they could put a 'green tax' on water.
Edit: Dash off?? FFS.

Probably place a tax on exhaling, no doubt.
Why are there only sticks? Why no carrots?

Probably place a tax on exhaling, no doubt. Why are there only sticks? Why no carrots? At risk of straying off topic, it's an old political gambit that was sent up in a Yes Minister episode. (mmm, Austin Princess ministerial limos... ) It goes something like this: You are in charge. You have something the people won't like but you want to do it. Let's call it a small stick. You scare them with a really big stick. They don't like it, get all worried and breathe a huge sigh of relief when they kick up and get the small stick instead. So look for the small stick in all this.
